Project C.U.R.E. Initiates Urgent Relief Fund for Colombian Earthquake Impacted Areas

Project C.U.R.E. Launches Emergency Relief Fund for Colombia Earthquake Survivors

In response to the devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 that hit western Colombia on August 10, 2026, Project C.U.R.E., a Denver-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing healthcare resources worldwide, has initiated an emergency relief fund. This fund aims to facilitate the donation of critical medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics serving the injured population.

Overview of the Earthquake's Impact

The recent earthquake is recorded as the strongest to strike Colombia in this century, unfortunately resulting in the loss of over 300 lives and leaving more than 4,400 individuals injured. As reported by Colombia's National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, the earthquake also caused substantial damage to health facilities — over 350 hospitals and clinics were affected, leading to the evacuation of patients. In Cali, the country's third-largest city, parts of a hospital designated for pediatrics and neonatal care collapsed, necessitating urgent assistance to treat trapped patients.

Project C.U.R.E.’s President and CEO, Dr. Douglas Jackson, stated, “Since 2004, we have been committed to supporting the people of Colombia. It is during crises like these that it becomes imperative for organizations like ours to unite and address pressing healthcare needs. We will remain focused on assisting with immediate necessities and providing resources for long-term recovery.”

Relief Fund Operations

Donations made to this newly established relief fund will be employed directly to dispatch medical supplies and equipment to the healthcare facilities treating those affected by the earthquake. Utilizing an assessment-driven model, Project C.U.R.E. ensures that the donated materials are strategically matched to the specific needs identified by local healthcare providers in Colombia.

The commitment to aid Colombia is part of Project C.U.R.E.'s larger mission. Founded in 1987, the organization has worked diligently to address the global shortage of medical resources. In particular, since its inception, Project C.U.R.E. has delivered approximately $1.8 million worth of medical supplies and equipment in five shipments directly supporting an estimated 160,000 individuals across various Colombian communities.

Previous Efforts in Colombia

One of the notable contributions by Project C.U.R.E. was in 2017 when they delivered the largest shipment valued at $762,563 to La Candelaria Hospital in El Banco, a facility that serves about 70,000 residents. More recently, in 2022, the organization provided assistance to the U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort during their medical events in Colombia.

The recent earthquake response comes on the heels of Project C.U.R.E.'s humanitarian efforts in the region, following their successful medical supply delivery valued at over $1.2 million to Caracas, Venezuela, earlier this year.

Call to Action

As Project C.U.R.E. continues to collaborate with its partners to pinpoint ongoing needs and facilitate logistics for further deliveries, they are also calling upon the public to contribute to the relief fund. Donations can be made via their website at give.projectcure.org/ColombiaAid2026.

By working together within the global community, we can help Colombia recover from this natural disaster and ensure that health services are restored and strengthened. For further information about Project C.U.R.E. and their ongoing missions, visit projectcure.org.
