GE Aerospace Partners with Bell Textron for Future Assault Aircraft Development

GE Aerospace and Bell Textron Collaboration on FLRAA Design


On March 31, 2025, GE Aerospace was selected for a subcontract associated with the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program, a pivotal initiative led by Bell Textron Inc., a noted subsidiary of Textron Inc. This partnership will see GE Aerospace taking charge of the design, development, and delivery of state-of-the-art avionics systems for the U.S. Army's cutting-edge aerial platform.

Milestone Approval Signals Progress


The awarding of this subcontract is particularly momentous, occurring right after the U.S. Army's endorsement of Milestone B, an important checkpoint that greenlights the progression into the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. This achievement is crucial as it lays the groundwork for further advancements in the aircraft's capabilities, reinforcing both operational readiness and reliability in future missions. GE Aerospace’s general manager, Matt Burns, emphasized the importance of a robust digital backbone in facilitating the passage of Milestone B.

Advancements in Military Aviation


As part of this initiative, the digital backbone designed by GE Aerospace aims to enhance interoperability within the future vertical lift programs for the Army. This technological advancement will allow for easy system modifications without consulting the systems integrator, thereby streamlining costs and expediting changes.

Tanika Watson, who oversees Future Vertical Lift at GE Aerospace, remarked on the significance of this digital infrastructure. It creates a reliable, high-speed data communication network, ensuring that the aircraft can adapt quickly to evolving mission requirements and data transmission needs. This system not only strengthens the operational framework of the aircraft but also facilitates the implementation of the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) from the project's inception.

Health Awareness System Integration


In addition to the digital backbone infrastructure, GE Aerospace is also supplying the Health Awareness System for the FLRAA. Drawing from extensive operational experiences in both commercial and military sectors, this system is designed to enhance mission readiness through predictive maintenance capabilities. It has effectively saved operators significant amounts of money while improving the overall longevity and reliability of aircraft systems.
