Envision Energy Joins AEA Ammonia Certification System Pilot



In a noteworthy move for global clean energy trade, Envision Energy, a leader in green technology, has officially stepped into the pilot phase of the Ammonia Energy Association (AEA) Ammonia Certification System. This initiative aims to promote international trade in low-emission ammonia through a robust certification process that ensures transparency and traceability across the supply chain.

The certification system is designed for producers, traders, and consumers to validate important environmental factors, particularly focusing on carbon emissions and the origin of ammonia products. This is achieved through independently verified data, fostering a marketplace that prioritizes sustainability and accountability.

The AEA Ammonia Certification System is fundamentally voluntary, offering participants a digital infrastructure through the AEA Ammonia Registry, operated by MiQ. This state-of-the-art system facilitates secure data transfers and maintains transparency from the point of certificate generation through the trading process until retirement.

Participants in this program are guided through three chain of custody models – Segregated, Mass Balance, and Book Claim. Envision, in its commitment to overcoming the logistical barriers associated with long-distance delivery, will utilize the Book Claim model. This innovative approach allows entities to trade environmental attributes without necessitating the physical transportation of ammonia, ultimately lowering costs and emissions while separating the green credentials from the product itself.

The Book Claim feature effectively supports the expansion of a global green ammonia market, similar to existing models in renewable energy and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Frank Yu, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy, expressed enthusiasm about joining the pilot program, highlighting that this system empowers their clientele to reliably decarbonize operations, irrespective of their proximity to production facilities.

Moreover, Trevor Brown, Executive Director of the AEA, welcomed Envision as a pioneering participant in this certification trial, looking forward to showcasing the capacity of their system to fulfill diverse market needs as the industry for low-emission ammonia rapidly evolves, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

Recently, Envision marked a significant milestone by successfully executing the first commercial delivery of green ammonia from its state-of-the-art Net Zero Industrial Park in Chifeng, China, to the Port of Ulsan in South Korea in March 2026. This historic transaction validated the entire value chain, confirming the reliability of logistics from renewable energy production to international maritime transportation.

The journey of innovation for Envision continued with the commissioning of the world’s largest AI-powered production facility for green hydrogen and ammonia in July 2025, which boasts an annual capacity of 320,000 tons, demonstrating real-time optimization at an industrial scale.

Frank Yu is set to present insights regarding Envision’s projects and their involvement in the AEA Ammonia Certification System at the World Hydrogen 2026 Summit scheduled in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on May 19. This forum will provide an excellent platform to discuss the future of ammonia as a crucial commodity in the clean energy landscape, highlighting Envision's role in this significant transition.
