New CIMA President Alfred Ramosedi: A Vision of Trust and Innovation in Finance
New Leadership at CIMA
In a significant turning point for the financial and accounting profession, Alfred Ramosedi, FCMA, CGMA, has been elected as the 93rd President of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) during the Annual General Meeting held on June 24, 2026. Alongside this prestigious role, he has also taken on the position of Co-Chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, a global entity formed by CIMA and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).
Ramosedi's vision for his presidency revolves around three core principles: trust, innovation, and opportunity. He emphasizes trust as the most valuable currency in the profession, indicating that it should be at the heart of accounting and finance practices moving forward. His agenda prescribes a significant transformation within the sector by incorporating cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, aiming to create a more robust and adaptable accountancy landscape.
In an era marked by rapid change and uncertainty, Ramosedi, along with Jan Lewis, CPA, CGMA, Chair of the Association, is committed to re-defining the role of accountants in both the economy and society. They intend to guide the profession through this transformative period while ensuring that emerging talents are equipped for the challenges ahead.
In his inaugural speech, Ramosedi articulated that the decisions made today regarding trust building, technological adoption, effective leadership in complex times, and investing in future generations will shape the future of the finance and accounting field. He stated, “If we make the right decisions, we will not only keep pace with change but also dictate it.”
Ramosedi brings over 30 years of rich experience in the South African financial services sector. His career kicked off in 1995 at Nedbank Limited where he held various senior management roles over 15 years, advancing to Managing Executive at Nedbank Private Bank in 2008. Following stints at ABSA Bank and African Bank, he became the CEO of Bayport Financial Services – a leading firm focused on providing responsible consumer credit and financial health programs in developing markets.
His commitment to CIMA has been long-standing; he joined the Gauteng local group in 1998 and became its chair in 1999. He was instrumental in establishing the Regional Board for Southern Africa in 2000 and has served in various advisory capacities within CIMA since. In recognition of his leadership qualities, Ramosedi was awarded the CIMA Silver Medal in 2013. In 2023, he resumed his role in the CIMA Council and joined the Board of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
Ramosedi lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, with his wife and three adult children. Outside of his work commitments, he enjoys reading, cycling, and jogging, reflecting his belief in a balanced and active lifestyle.
