The Grand Opening of goodcoffee Shimbashi by goodroom!
In a unique initiative to blend heritage and modernity, goodroom Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Gooddays Holdings Co., Ltd., is set to launch "goodcoffee Shimbashi by goodroom" on July 11, 2025. Nestled within the historic Hori Building, located in the bustling area of Shimbashi, Tokyo, this café aims to offer more than just delightful coffee; it aims to revive the story and significance of a building that stands as a testament to Tokyo's architectural evolution for nearly a century.
A Heritage Building with a Rich History
The Hori Building, constructed in 1932, is a notable example of early Showa-period architecture, designed for the Hori Shoten co., which manufactured and sold architectural hardware. As a five-story reinforced concrete structure with a basement, it features a modernist façade adorned with scratch tiles, while the horizontal windows provide a continuous flow of light. This building is not only significant in its architectural design but also holds historical value as it gives insight into the evolution of urban residential designs in modern Tokyo. Due to its exceptional historical significance, it was designated as a “Historical Building Selected by Tokyo” in 1989 and recognized as a “Registered Tangible Cultural Property” in 1998.
goodcoffee Shimbashi: A Café That Breathes History
Amidst the rapid changes in Tokyo, the Hori Building has preserved its charm for 93 years. By operating goodcoffee within this storied edifice, goodroom seeks to provide visitors with more than merely exquisite coffee. They aspire to merge the building's historical allure with contemporary lifestyles and work practices, thereby offering new values that resonate with both tradition and modernity.
The design of the café has been meticulously crafted using goodroom's expertise in renovation, creating a natural and warm space that harmonizes with the soothing atmosphere of the historical building.
The Delight of Good Coffee
At goodcoffee, the main offering is drip coffee that boasts a full-bodied richness, characterized by crisp acidity and a lingering cocoa finish. Patrons are sure to enjoy the distinctive flavors that remain appealing even with daily consumption. In addition to drip coffee, the menu features dessert options like coffee-infused affogato and coffee jelly, along with herbal teas blended with lemongrass and spearmint.
Hot Café Latte: 600 yen (tax included)
Espresso Orange: 650 yen (tax included)
A Working Lounge Integrated into the Café
Complementing goodcoffee is the adjacent "goodroom lounge," a workspace that allows for seamless integration of work and leisure. Members of the work lounge can enjoy a 30% discount on all café beverages. This café serves as an ideal space for a morning coffee before starting the workday or as a venue for meetings.
