California Hotel & Lodging Association Foundation's Scholarship Initiative

The California Hotel & Lodging Association Hospitality Foundation (CHLAHF) has made a significant impact on the future of the hospitality industry by awarding a total of $170,000 in scholarships to 97 students pursuing various degrees in hotel management, tourism, and culinary arts. This initiative highlights the Foundation's commitment to fostering education and professional development among those poised to shape the future of the hospitality sector.

Founded to uplift aspiring hospitality professionals, this year's scholarship program has reached unprecedented heights, with a record number of applicants, underscoring the growing interest and dedication toward careers in this vibrant industry. Compared to the previous year, the Foundation is thrilled to note an increase of 35 scholarship recipients.

Michael Pace, the Chair of CHLAHF and General Manager of the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco, expressed the significance of this initiative: "These students have the power to shape the future of the hospitality industry in bold and innovative ways. What excites me most about our scholarship program is that it allows us to support and inspire a passionate, talented group of future leaders to keep pushing forward in their pursuit of careers in hospitality."

The recipients of these scholarships will be celebrated at the 2025 Scholarship Awards Gala on October 23, 2025, at The Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco. The Gala promises to be a wonderful event, bringing together hospitality professionals to honor current scholarship recipients as well as to support future leaders in the field.

Among the schools represented, San Diego State University took the lead with 32 scholarship recipients, followed by California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with 14 recipients, California State University, Monterey Bay with 12, California State University, Long Beach with 10, and the University of San Francisco with 5 recipients. This impressive tally from various institutions not only reflects the quality and diversity of the candidates but also the evolving academic interest in the hospitality landscape.

The achievements of the students are made possible through generous support from various hotel brands over the past 15 years, including major players like Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, and Handlery Hotels. Their ongoing commitment significantly boosts the resources available to nurture the next generation of hospitality professionals.

As CHLAHF looks to the future, its mission remains steadfast: to enhance scholarship opportunities and raise awareness about the educational needs of students aspiring to enter the hospitality workforce. This aligns perfectly with their goal of promoting excellence within the California hospitality industry.
