Emirates Logistics Expands in Kenya's Tatu City Economic Zone

Emirates Logistics, a prominent supplier of supply chain and logistics services across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, has officially announced its expansion into the Kenyan market. This move involves the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility in Tatu City, Africa's newest and most significant urban development, conveniently located just 30 minutes from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

The strategic development of these facilities is aimed at bolstering Emirates Logistics’ ability to serve its esteemed clientele across Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in a region witnessing rapid economic growth. Steven van der Vliet, the Commercial Director of Emirates Logistics, stated, "We take pride in enhancing our presence in Kenya through our expansion into Tatu City. This reinforces our global footprint and logistical capabilities, enabling us to provide comprehensive solutions tailored to the needs of our current and prospective clients."

The construction of these facilities is set to commence within this year, marking an essential step in Emirates Logistics' global expansion strategy, which currently encompasses operations in 15 countries. The company boasts over two decades of experience in international markets, maintaining warehouses, offices, and transport fleets in various nations, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Côte d'Ivoire, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Malaysia.

Tatu City, which warmly welcomes Emirates Logistics, is designed as a mixed-use Special Economic Zone. George Kapanadze, the Chief Financial Officer of Rendeavour, the master developer of Tatu City, remarked, "Our SEZ is focused on attracting foreign direct investment to Kenya, providing an operational-ready infrastructure with essential services and amenities that investors like Emirates Logistics demand."

The development of this area seeks to create a thriving business environment, equipped with housing, retail options, schools, parks, and recreational activities, catering to over 25,000 daily residents, workers, and students within the community.

Furthermore, the Special Economic Zone offers several incentives for businesses settling within its precincts, including a significantly reduced corporate tax rate of 10% for the first ten years and 15% for the subsequent ten years, compared to the standard rate of 30%. Additionally, companies benefit from zero VAT on goods and services, import duty exemptions, and relief from stamp duty.

With ongoing developments valued at over $5 billion across Africa, Rendeavour aims to create secure, predictable, and effective environments for both individuals and enterprises. The company's developments in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo accommodate over 200 enterprises and provide housing for more than 6,000 students, alongside 10,000 mixed-income housing units either completed or under construction.

As Tatu City continues to evolve into a lively hub of commerce, more than 100 companies currently operate within its boundaries, including notable entities such as Heineken, Cold Solutions, CCI Global, Dormans, and several others.

This ambitious expansion by Emirates Logistics underscores a significant commitment to enhancing logistical operations in emerging economies, paving the way for localized and efficient solutions that cater to the growing demands of clients in Sub-Saharan Africa. Tatu City's strategic location within Kenya’s economic landscape positions it as a gateway for international logistics, and Emirates Logistics is poised to play a pivotal role in its development.
