In a commendable effort to uplift the next generation, Southwire, a leading wire and cable company, has partnered with SKILLED Nation, an innovative non-profit organization, to invest in young talent through meaningful scholarships. This commitment, launched two years ago, aims to help students from the 12 for Life® program, which focuses on skilled trades, continue their educational pursuits beyond high school.

The collaboration has led to the establishment of the Southwire 12 for Life SKILLED Scholarship, which has already enabled numerous students to take crucial steps toward secure careers in skilled trades. Alvin Townley, the Founding Executive Director of SKILLED Nation, highlighted the organization's pride in supporting Southwire's initiatives, stating: "Through innovative initiatives like the 12 for Life program, Southwire is uniquely preparing young people for high-demand career pathways."

During its inaugural year, the scholarship awarded ten graduating seniors from Carrollton, Georgia, and Florence, Alabama, $10,000 each to further their education. One notable recipient, Magnum Cannon, shared his gratitude, explaining how the scholarship has significantly shaped his future. As a student pursuing a degree in Industrial Systems Technology and HVAC at Northwest Shoals Community College, Cannon noted the program's hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing technology as instrumental in developing his practical skills.

Similarly, Robert Anthony, another recipient of the 2024 scholarship, expressed appreciation for how the 12 for Life program has influenced his life. Studying at West Georgia Technical College, he noted: "Receiving the scholarship lifted a huge financial burden and motivated me to work even harder to succeed."

Over the last two years, the Southwire 12 for Life SKILLED Scholarship has contributed more than $200,000 to students pursuing technical, vocational, and community college education. This year, the scholarship initiative is set to expand further, providing an additional $100,000 in scholarships to students aiming to begin careers in the skilled trades.
