Rokt Announces Bill Barton's Appointment as Chief Operating Officer to Enhance People, Security, and Legal Functions

Rokt Appoints Bill Barton as COO

Rokt, a leading player in ecommerce technology, has named Bill Barton as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). This important appointment is set to drive the company's mission of creating more personalized shopping experiences through advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Barton arrives at this new role following a successful tenure as Rokt's Chief Product and Engineering Officer. He previously served as a strategic advisor to the company, which has allowed him to cultivate a deep understanding of Rokt’s operations and objectives.

As COO, Barton will oversee three critical areas: People, Security, and Legal. Notably, this reorganization will unify the People function for the very first time, combining talent acquisition, people operations, and legal aspects of employment under a single leadership umbrella. This consolidation aims to enhance the company’s capacity to attract and develop talented individuals while effectively managing risk and nurturing Rokt's unique organizational culture.

Barton is also set to continue his engagement with the Swarm initiative, a cross-functional team working on the company’s highest-priority product developments. This initiative is a key part of Rokt's pursuit of a more streamlined and agile engineering structure.

In his own words, Barton reflects on his focus over the past decade: “How can one truly scale team potential through culture and organizational design while minimizing the obstacles that impede individuals?” He points out that the growth of AI inevitably necessitates a more technical approach to organizational development and management.

His extensive experience uniquely positions him to tackle tough questions around organizational structure in light of AI developments. He believes that rethinking how organizations operate is imperative in fully realizing the benefits of AI.

With over 40 years of expertise in product and engineering, Barton's attributes include a significant period spent at Amazon, where he played a crucial role in the development of Alexa. Additionally, his leadership spans positions at NAVTEQ, Nokia, Revolabs, and Microsoft. His academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Harvard University.

Bruce Buchanan, CEO of Rokt, expressed confidence in Barton’s abilities, emphasizing the need for a leader who can maneuver through both the technical and human aspects of the business. Buchanan highlighted that Barton’s extensive experience in solving complex challenges at the junction of technology and human systems makes him an ideal candidate for the COO position.
