Shibuya is set to host a remarkable event designed to foster understanding and awareness of dementia, along with initiatives aimed at preventing frailty. This occasion, titled “Shibuya100-Year Life Week: Dementia Awareness Exhibition & Frailty Prevention Fair”, runs from September 9th to 12th, 2026. With an exciting lineup of activities, this week promises to be a vibrant mix of learning, socializing, and advocacy to encourage healthier lifestyles and community connections in the era of an aging population.

Event Highlights


Dementia Awareness Exhibition


Taking place from September 9th to 11th, this exhibition will feature a variety of programs focused on enhancing understanding of dementia. It will hold daily workshops and film screenings that showcase the challenges and narratives surrounding those affected by this condition. Notably, the exhibition will be hosted at the Shibuya City Hall across two floors, fostering an inclusive environment for residents and workers in the Shibuya area.

  • - Dementia Workshop: Led by the non-profit organization issue+design, participants will immerse themselves in the world seen through the eyes of those living with dementia. This workshop encourages dialogue to foster better relationships with individuals affected by the condition.
  • - Film Screenings: Highlights will feature “Long Goodbye,” a poignant film directed by Ryota Nakano that delves into the lives of a family dealing with dementia. It stars celebrated actors like Yasuko Matsuyuki and will be screened with a subsequent discussion.

In addition, daily consultations and experience-based booths will offer practical tips for living well, covering topics from locomotion checks to vascular age assessments.

Frailty Prevention Fair


The fair on September 12th aims to discuss and promote physical health and resilience among older adults.

  • - Eligibility: Open to Shibuya residents, workers, and students (Prior registration is required).

  • - Chair Exercises to Hit Songs: Enjoy an active session led by physiotherapist Micka Chan, combining exercise with classic hits from the Showa and Heisei eras.
  • - Health Talks: Notably featuring Seihei Mai-no-umi, a famed personality, who will share insights on maintaining a vibrant life at any age.
  • - Motivational Speaking: The cancer survivor Hiroko Hori, known for her inspiring journey overcoming tongue cancer, will highlight resilience and the significance of health.
