A Commitment to Change
Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU), a major player among credit unions in the United States with total assets exceeding $9.8 billion, has made headlines once again by rallying its community in support of the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. This year, TFCU proudly announced that it has raised more than $180,000 to help combat breast cancer, reflecting an ongoing dedication to public health and community engagement.
An Expanded Partnership
Since 2021, TFCU has taken on the role of Presenting Sponsor for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event on Long Island, the largest of its kind in the country. This year, their commitment deepened as they expanded their efforts not only to cover the Long Island event but also to include Eastern Long Island and serve as a Silver Sponsor for events in Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida. This expansion represents a wider reach in providing essential support to breast cancer survivors, caregivers, and those currently battling the disease.
Brad Calhoun, President and CEO of TFCU, emphasized the credit union's philosophy of community involvement: "At Teachers Federal Credit Union, we believe in standing shoulder to shoulder with the communities we serve. Breast cancer touches the lives of so many, and through our continued partnership with the American Cancer Society, we are helping advance research, provide vital patient support services, and ensure no one faces this disease alone. We are incredibly proud of our employees and members who rallied together once again to make an impact."
Heartfelt Participation
The movement kicked off with a significant corporate contribution of $80,000, which was dramatically supplemented through additional fundraising by employees and the community. In total, over 300 TFCU employees actively participated in various walks and events across the country, contributing time and resources, including creating survivor sashes for breast cancer survivors participating in walks.
Funds raised through this initiative play a crucial role in supporting the American Cancer Society's comprehensive range of services for patients and families. These resources contribute to pioneering research, as well as fostering education, prevention, and early detection efforts aimed at reducing the impact of breast cancer.
Since the inception of this partnership, TFCU has collectively raised over $650,000 in the fight against breast cancer, showcasing the credit union's long-standing commitment to updating community stewardship. Beyond the Making Strides initiative, TFCU supports a variety of nonprofit organizations throughout the year, prioritizing causes in education, health services, and local economic growth.
A Legacy of Support
The American Cancer Society, established over 110 years ago, stands as a leading organization in cancer advocacy and support, dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by cancer through a mix of research, advocacy, and support services. TFCU's partnership with the American Cancer Society emphasizes a mutual goal of eradicating cancer and ensuring everyone has access to prevention, detection, treatment, and survival resources.
As we reflect on the achievements of this partnership, it is a reminder of the significant impact that community-focused efforts can achieve when united for a cause. TFCU's commitment is not just about fundraising; it represents a broader ethos of community solidarity and resilience in fighting breast cancer—a cause that affects so many lives.
