Scania Unveils Electric and Hybrid Solutions for a Greener Construction and Mining Future

As the construction and mining industries continue to search for sustainable solutions, Scania is standing at the forefront of this shift by unveiling its latest electric and hybrid power options at Bauma 2025. The focus is on transforming how heavy machinery operates, reducing emissions, and improving efficiency.

The introduction of these innovative power solutions is significant, as Scania aims to complement its existing fuel-efficient combustion engines with all-electric and hybrid technologies. This expansion reflects a commitment to sustainability—an area where both industries have begun to make noteworthy changes towards greener practices.

At Bauma 2025, attendees visiting the Scania booth (Hall B4, Stand 120) will be privy to an exclusive first look at these new offerings. Among them is a self-propelled platform developed in collaboration with Cometto, designed for the heavy load transportation sector. This platform is powered entirely by Scania’s electric solutions, showcasing a future where heavy transport is significantly quieter and devoid of harmful emissions.

Scania's new power solutions are not just about going electric; they represent a comprehensive approach to energy efficiency and operational sustainability. The hybrid power system is particularly robust, featuring a master power unit that contains essential components like an e-machine, inverter, batteries, and an internal combustion engine. This modularity allows for tailored solutions to specific operational needs across various industrial applications.

A critical benefit of these electric options lies in their versatility. The e-machine's integrated clutch lets it seamlessly switch from hybrid to fully electric modes, which simplifies the transition into a more electrified future for businesses operating within these sectors. Additionally, the reduced noise levels when in electric mode enhance the work environment, making it ideal for inner-city projects while maintaining operator comfort.

“By providing a modular-based solution, we aim to be a single-source supplier,” said Björn Winblad, Director for e-Mobility Solutions at Scania Power Solutions. “This allows us to offer a tailored fit for each customer’s operational requirements.”

Moreover, the launch comes at a crucial time when companies are under increasing pressure to invest in sustainable technologies. Scania's electric and hybrid solutions promise not only to reduce emissions but to assist customers in their own sustainability transformations.

In an exciting collaboration, Scania is also launching a fully electric self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) in partnership with Cometto. This innovative transport solution is aimed at industries like wind energy, aviation, and plant engineering. It includes a built-in charger, compact design, and boasts long battery life with impressive rapid charging capabilities, positions itself as a leading choice in terms of efficiency and environmental compliance.

This marks a shift as Cometto moves from traditional internal combustion engines to employing Scania's electric powerpack units, emphasizing the importance of innovation and reliability in partnerships within the heavy transport sector. Adrian Zingan, Cometto's Product Manager, stated, “Our longstanding partnership with Scania underscores their reliability and exceptional global service support throughout our years of collaboration.”

The all-electric SPMT has already attracted customers, with the first unit scheduled to be delivered to Mammoet, the largest heavy-lifting company in the world, after the event.

In conclusion, Scania's showcasing at Bauma 2025 signifies more than just product innovation; it highlights a paradigm shift towards electrification and sustainability in construction and mining industries. With Scania’s extensive background in electrification across various transport applications, these new solutions meet current objectives while providing flexibility for future adaptations. As the industry gears up for an era of electrification, Scania is leading the charge towards a healthier planet while enhancing operational efficiencies.

By investing in electrification efforts tailored for heavy industries, Scania is setting a benchmark for sustainability that other companies might aspire to follow, signaling a promising future that combines productivity, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
