China Sets Ambitious Green Goals for Next 5-Year Plan



As the world navigates increasingly pressing environmental challenges, China is stepping into the spotlight with its forthcoming 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable development. According to a recent report by international experts gathered in Beijing for a meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), China has already made impressive strides in systemic governance aimed at advancing its green transition.

Progress in Green Transition



Over the past decade, China's approach to addressing ecological and climate issues has morphed into a blueprint not only for its national governance but also for influencing global trends in sustainability. Beate Trankmann, the United Nations Development Programme's resident representative in China, remarked on how the next five years will not only define China's domestic trajectory but also hold implications for other nations striving to address similar crises.

The experts emphasized that China's ongoing green transition is both a remarkable achievement and a significant challenge. Zhao Yingmin, a member of CCICED and former vice-minister of ecology and environment, stated that this transition is essential for the global community to successfully tackle the interconnected issues of ecological degradation and climate change. The efficient shaping of the upcoming Five-Year Plan will play a critical role not just for China, but for the entire planet.
