EMA Research Unveils Crucial Insights into Network Operations in AI and Hybrid Cloud Era

The digital landscape is evolving rapidly, and the latest report from Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) sheds light on the persistent challenges faced by network operations teams in the context of accelerated AI adoption and the complexities of hybrid and multi-cloud environments. According to the research, which included insights from 352 IT professionals across North America and Europe, a strikingly low satisfaction rate of only 31% was observed concerning current network operational strategies.

Shamus McGillicuddy, vice president of research for network infrastructure and operations at EMA, articulates that while network operators recognize the pressing need for improvement, they often lack the necessary support from organizational leadership. The study highlights critical areas where enterprises struggle: inadequate budget for hiring additional personnel, obsolete or inefficient tools, insufficient automation, and limited influence over the development of modern network architectures.

The emphasis on AI has shifted significantly, now ranking as the leading strategic driver for network operations. This marks a notable change compared to past reports where it was listed lower. Looking forward, the survey indicated that a remarkable 97% of organizations expect to harness AI application workloads either on-premises or through cloud infrastructures. However, there's a widespread acknowledgment that current monitoring and troubleshooting tools are ill-equipped to manage networks tailored for AI workloads.

Interestingly, while the majority of survey participants expressed frustration with their existing monitoring tools—the report stated that 32% are completely satisfied—73% anticipate needing to replace some of these tools in the next two years. Notably, the staffing crisis continues to be a roadblock; 52% cited the recruitment and retention of experts in network technologies as an ongoing challenge.

The EMA report not only identifies these operational hurdles but also explores emerging best practices and strategic methodologies to enhance network management maturity. This independent analysis, supported by industry leaders like BlueCat and Broadcom, serves as a vital resource for organizations aiming to refine their network operations in a technology-advanced landscape.

In tandem with the report’s release, EMA is organizing a free webinar scheduled for May 27, where McGillicuddy will delve into the key findings and actionable recommendations outlined within the research.

EMA has been an influential player in the IT research and consulting field since its establishment in 1996. By delivering in-depth market analysis, vendor evaluations, and actionable insights, EMA empowers leaders to navigate the ever-evolving technology landscape.
