Salesian Lyceum Enhances Sports Facilities in Lviv, Ukraine

In an inspiring development for youth sports, the Salesian Lyceum in Lviv, Ukraine, has inaugurated new locker room facilities to benefit its students and local athletes. This significant enhancement is made possible through generous donations from Salesian Missions, the U.S. development branch of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

Construction and Facilities

The construction of these locker rooms commenced earlier this year, designed to accommodate the increasing number of students engaging in various sports activities. The new facilities include separate locker areas for boys and girls, along with a modular restroom area. Additionally, the locker rooms are equipped with essential amenities such as a shower room, benches, and clothing hangers, creating a more comfortable experience for the young athletes.

Father Taras Bayovski, the headmaster of the Salesian Lyceum, expressed his gratitude, stating, "The addition of these modular locker rooms adjacent to our soccer and volleyball pitches represents a significant step forward for us. Historically, the lyceum has faced challenges in promoting a healthy lifestyle through adequate sports infrastructure. With these new facilities, we now have a soccer field, a volleyball court, and dedicated locker rooms, facilitating our participation in student sports leagues for soccer, volleyball, and rugby."

This initiative is particularly impactful for the 431 youth involved in various sports programs at the Lyceum, many of whom are orphans or have been displaced due to the ongoing conflict in the region. The introduction of well-structured sports facilities aims to foster a sense of normalcy and community among these young individuals, helping to rebuild their lives through sports and teamwork.

Community and Local Engagement

In addition to serving the students, the new locker rooms will also cater to local teams that rent the soccer pitch for their training sessions. This dual-use of the facility not only enhances local sports culture but also promotes community engagement through organized sports, encouraging healthy competition and collaboration among different youth groups.
