A&W® Restaurants Commemorates National Root Beer Float Day
A&W® Restaurants, renowned as America's oldest franchised restaurant chain, is ready to celebrate National Root Beer Float Day this August 6. This annual event is not just an opportunity to indulge in free Root Beer Floats but also a chance to support American veterans through their partnership with Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time, participating A&W locations will offer complimentary small Root Beer Floats, made with their signature Root Beer and creamy vanilla soft serve. While the tasty treats are free, customers are encouraged to enhance their experience by making voluntary donations to support DAV or purchasing a limited-edition 2025 Collector's Mug, with all proceeds directly benefiting veterans in need.
"National Root Beer Float Day is one of our favorite days of the year, not only because we love bringing joy to our guests with free treats, but also because it allows us to give back to those who have selflessly served our country," said Betsy Schmandt, CEO and President of A&W Restaurants.
Over the years, A&W and its generous guests have raised over 1 million dollars for veteran-focused organizations. This year, they aim to continue this tradition and make an even greater impact for America's veterans and their families.
In addition to serving free floats, A&W’s Limited-Edition Collector's Mug, featuring Rooty the Great Root Bear®, will be available for purchase at $10. The proceeds from these mugs support DAV programs that provide vital services such as healthcare access, employment assistance, and transportation to medical appointments for over one million veterans across the nation.
A Legacy of Community Support
Since launching the National Root Beer Float Day festivities in 2013, A&W Restaurants has made a significant contribution to the veteran community. The annual event aligns with their commitment to community service and honoring those who have served.
With over 850 locations across 35 U.S. states and Asia, A&W is experiencing a revival as more people discover its famous Root Beer, created from a recipe dating back to 1919 that features real cane sugar and a unique blend of spices and herbs. This commitment to quality and community goes beyond serving great food; it’s about giving back and making a difference.
As National Root Beer Float Day approaches, A&W invites everyone to join in the celebration, have fun, and support the heroes of the nation. To find a nearby participating A&W restaurant and learn more about how to support veterans, customers can visit
