Arcadis Achieves Seven ACEC New York Awards for Engineering Excellence in 2025
Arcadis Achieves Recognition for Engineering Excellence
Arcadis, a prominent global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy, proudly announces that it has secured seven prestigious awards from the New York chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC New York) for its 2026 Engineering Excellence Awards. These honors reflect Arcadis's dedication to innovation, resiliency, and delivering societal value across New York State.
The ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Awards recognize exceptional contributions that improve the safety, quality, and sustainability of the built environment within New York and beyond. This year's awards included various notable achievements across different categories:
1. Climate Risk Assessment - Diamond Award
In collaboration with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), Arcadis took significant steps in conducting a comprehensive Climate Risk Assessment. Utilizing a bespoke Digital Assessment Platform, the team analyzed both direct and indirect climate risks associated with PANYNJ's facilities. This initiative allowed for the prioritization of impactful resilience projects within PANYNJ’s capital planning, ultimately enhancing regional mobility and establishing a benchmark for climate adaptation strategies in essential infrastructure.
2. Brooklyn Paramount Theater - Platinum Award
Arcadis completed a comprehensive restoration of Brooklyn's Historic Paramount Theater. This project not only revived the venue’s architectural charm but also modernized its infrastructure, transforming it into a cutting-edge entertainment hub. By combining creative solutions with careful preservation efforts, Arcadis exceeded expectations, ensuring the theater serves as a vital cultural and economic cornerstone for the community.
3. JFK Mobile Dispatching - Platinum Award
The Ground Transportation Management System (GTMS) and its Virtual Dispatch Mobile App dramatically transformed the taxi dispatch dynamics at JFK Airport. With this innovative platform, drivers can wait offsite to receive notifications for pickups, effectively reducing idle time from hours to mere minutes. This solution has enhanced efficiency, decreased congestion and emissions, and aligned with client goals for sustainability.
4. Resilient NYC Partners - Platinum Award
Arcadis spearheaded the Resilient NYC Partners initiative, which funds green infrastructure projects targeting stormwater management on private properties throughout New York City. By identifying suitable sites and managing project delivery from design to construction, Arcadis expedited timelines while minimizing potential costs and risks for property owners.
5. Frank E. Van Lare - Gold Award
In leading a capital improvement initiative for the Frank E. Van Lare Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility, Arcadis successfully positioned Monroe County for regulatory compliance ahead of schedule. Innovative aeration and clarifier solutions not only ensured facility performance but also yielded significant cost savings of approximately $22.9 million, boosting public confidence.
6. North Interceptor - Gold Award
As part of the City of Newburgh's North Interceptor Sewer Replacement Project, Arcadis employed advanced trenchless technologies to replace 6,800 feet of sewer infrastructure. This project significantly alleviated combined sewer overflow issues, facilitating a 63% reduction in pollutant discharge into the Hudson River and catalyzing future community development.
7. Stadium Road - Gold Award
At the Knollwood Pumping Station, Arcadis oversaw the construction of a new chlorine contact tank and chemical feed station that allowed the Town of Greenburgh to meet essential regulatory disinfection requirements. By navigating complex site challenges effectively, Arcadis ensured reliable drinking water for over 40,000 residents while preparing the system for anticipated increased demand.
John McCarthy, President of Arcadis North America, stated, "We are thrilled to receive recognition from ACEC New York for our contributions through these transformative projects. Congratulations to our clients and our dedicated teams who were instrumental in achieving these honors. Each project is a testament to our relentless pursuit of engineering excellence and our commitment to addressing complex infrastructure challenges in New York."
The official award ceremony will take place at the 59th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on April 18, 2026, at the Hilton Midtown in New York City.
