American Skin Association Relocates Headquarters to Charlottesville

The American Skin Association (ASA) has officially relocated its headquarters to the vibrant city of Charlottesville, Virginia. This move positions the ASA closer to a significant dermatological research hub, thus reinforcing its ongoing mission to enhance skin health and safety awareness across the nation. With over 38 years dedicated to the education and advocacy of skin health, ASA has been pivotal in the fight against melanoma, skin cancer, and other skin-related conditions.

As part of this new chapter, ASA announced the appointment of Dr. Lu Q. Le, MD, PhD to its Medical Advisory Committee. Dr. Le is not only an esteemed expert in cancer biology but also serves as the Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Virginia (UVA), a position he took on in January 2024. Furthermore, he holds the prestigious title of Kenneth E. Greer, MD Endowed Professor at the UVA School of Medicine. His extensive research focuses on adult stem cell functionalities in cancer development and how cancerous cells interact with their healthy counterparts during tumor formation.

Dr. Le's impressive career has yielded significant contributions to understanding neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic condition linked to skin pigmentation changes and benign tumors affecting nerves. With over 70 peer-reviewed articles and three patents to his name, Dr. Le's lab has attracted more than $17 million in grant funding from recognized institutions such as the National Eye Institute and the National Cancer Institute. His expertise will greatly enhance ASA's capabilities in clinical practices and innovative cancer research.

According to Howard P. Milstein, Chairman of ASA, Dr. Le's unique perspective will be essential in propelling ASA's mission to prevent, diagnose, and treat skin cancer.
