Dalton X Academy Webinar: Unveiling the Future of Inquiry Learning
In today's fast-paced world, equipping students with the ability to think critically, act independently, and navigate their futures is becoming increasingly essential. On March 8, 2026, Dalton X Academy, which is slated to open in April 2027, will host the second installment of its online seminar series, titled "Discovering What Comes After Inquiry." This unique event aims to deepen the understanding of inquiry-based learning's benefits and provide insights into future opportunities for students.
Dalton X Academy, established under the Kawai Juku educational group, is significantly influenced by the educational model of Minerva University in the U.S. The curriculum incorporates a dynamic approach to inquiry learning with regional bases both domestically and internationally. While the introduction of new educational guidelines in 2022 has increased the prevalence of inquiry learning in high schools across Japan, many students and parents have expressed concerns about a lack of clarity regarding the tangible outcomes and connections between inquiry learning and university entrance exams.
To address these challenges, the seminar will feature graduates from Dalton Tokyo Academy, a sister school committed to fostering autonomy and collaboration among students. These alumni will share their firsthand experiences with inquiry learning and how those experiences have shaped their educational paths, career choices, and strategies for tackling university entrance examinations.
Insights from Inquiry Learning
The creative curriculum at Dalton Tokyo Academy includes dedicated "Laboratory" sessions where students explore personal challenges and develop essential skills for independent learning. Through engagement with their community and peers, students broaden their interests and then delve into in-depth inquiry projects related to their chosen topics. This approach has shown remarkable results, with data indicating significant growth in soft skills from the beginning of their studies to graduation.
During the seminar's first part, participants will hear from three alumni who have navigated six years of in-depth inquiry learning. The discussions will focus on their personal experiences, the content of their inquiry projects, and the realizations they underwent regarding their future paths during high school. Often, inquiry learning's potential impact on careers is not clearly conveyed in commonly held perceptions; this seminar aims to illuminate how these experiences can translate into professional opportunities.
At the end of the seminar, attendees will receive information about the Dalton X Academy, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of what the high school offers.
