San Diego Teens Set Guinness World Record by Donating 21,000 Shoes to Those in Need

Teens Achieve World Record for Charity

In an inspiring event aimed at making holiday giving significantly impactful, the Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC), a group led by passionate teens from California, has set a goal to break the Guinness World Record for the largest number of donated shoes in a 24-hour span. Partnering with the LA-based, female-founded footwear brand Jellypop, the YPC plans to donate over 21,000 shoes to women and children in need this holiday season.

The donation event, titled “St. Nick's Kicks,” will take place on December 7, 2024, at the Sharp Healthcare Spectrum Center in San Diego, California. From 8 AM to 2 PM, hundreds of volunteers will work together to ensure that every pair of shoes finds its way to those who are less fortunate. Augustus Holm, founder of the YPC, emphasizes the importance of this event not just in terms of charity, but also in creating an unforgettable experience for both the volunteers and the recipients. “By intentionally making this a live event, we hope to create not just awareness but a movement that encourages future generations to give back,” he said.

The partnership with Sharp HealthCare has added immense value to this initiative, as Christina Jordan, the Chief Development Officer of Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus, highlighted, “Making a positive impact in the lives of San Diegans is fundamentally part of our mission.” Her statement illustrates the collaboration's objective to inspire youth while supporting community welfare.

Volunteer Opportunities and Community Engagement

With hundreds of volunteers already signed up, the organizers aim to reach out for more teen volunteers and financial or material donations to enhance the impact of this charity event. Interested parties can register at www.ypc.care. Jellypop, as the main sponsor, is also encouraging their customers to support this cause by visiting their website at www.jellypop.la or contributing to the fundraising effort through GoFundMe.

A Legacy of Philanthropy

The Youth Philanthropy Council isn’t new to making waves in charity work. Founded in 2019, it holds the title of California's largest youth-run nonprofit. The organization aims to break the cycle of poverty among children and families through impactful initiatives in healthcare, education, and community support. Having raised over $3 million in donations, YPC has led projects that range from providing shoes in past events to funding school constructions in underdeveloped areas worldwide. Their contributions extend beyond mere donations as they provide educational support and foster community engagement through various initiatives.

Through efforts like these, the YPC not only aims to uplift communities in need but also empowers young individuals to take action and make a difference, regardless of their age. With the “St. Nick's Kicks” event, YPC anticipates that this effort will set a significant precedent for future charity projects, making it clear that anyone can be a change-maker.

Looking Ahead

As the daytime of the event approaches, excitement is mounting within the San Diego community. Local businesses and families are encouraged to get involved and support the teens' ambitious goals. By participating, contributing, or even spreading the word about the initiative, they can all play a part in not only meeting the Guinness World Record but also transforming the lives of those who are significantly impacted by this charity drive. The event promises to not only provide new shoes and toys but also create lasting memories and instill a sense of responsibility and service among the present youth, ensuring that the spirit of giving continues well into the future.

In conclusion, San Diego’s Youth Philanthropy Council, alongside its partner Jellypop, is committed to making a profound difference during this holiday season—and they invite everyone to join them in achieving this noble goal.
