KuCoin Launches Support Initiative in Sumatra
In a significant humanitarian effort,
KuCoin, a leading global cryptocurrency exchange, has collaborated with the
Global CSR Foundation and the
American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) to launch the initiative
"A Matter of Dignity - Sumatra Relief Initiative". This program aims to address the critical needs of women and communities affected by recent disasters in Aceh and Medan, Indonesia. The initiative will initially provide
5,000 menstrual hygiene kits alongside essential medical supplies and fresh food products.
The initiative underscores the importance of addressing women's health needs during times of crisis. According to
Aurelly Syifalia Widihart, co-founder of Yayasan Srikandi Merah Putih, which is executing the program, women are often disproportionately affected by disasters, yet their essential health requirements frequently go unnoticed. "This initiative is about responding to a crisis in a way that protects both lives and dignity," she stated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Launching the Initiative
The official launch was marked by a ceremonial distribution of relief packages to
H. Teuku Badruddin Syah, the Sultan of Aceh, alongside representatives from Yayasan Srikandi Merah Putih. The distribution of these essential items is set to kick off in early April 2026, focusing on the most affected communities grappling with the dual challenges of recent disasters and ongoing recovery efforts.
Dr. Padmini Murthy, AMWA's global health lead, along with
Jing Zhao Cesarone, founder of the Global CSR Foundation, have been pivotal in conceptualizing the project. The menstrual equity model they designed has previously benefited communities in the Bahamas and Suriname and is now being adapted to better fit the Indonesian context.
KuCoin, represented by
Sylvie Dong, its Chief CSR Officer, is coordinating the procurement and timely delivery of hygienic products as part of a broader commitment to corporate responsibility.
"It is the duty of businesses to be present when communities are affected by disasters. KuCoin will continue to support CSR initiatives that meet real needs and provide significant relief," stated Dong, illustrating the company's dedication to social impact.
Collaborative Efforts
The on-ground distribution of medications, food, and hygiene kits in Aceh and Medan will be facilitated by
Maha Medicare, an organization that has been actively supporting flood-affected communities since December of the previous year. This initiative has garnered significant support from both regional and national leaders, highlighting a strong local commitment to community recovery.
Support from key figures, including
Agustina Hastarini, the wife of the Minister of Indonesian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and
La Ode Ikrar Hastomi, a representative of the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, showcases government involvement in cross-sector humanitarian action. Moreover, well-known Indonesian personalities like
Baim Wong,
Rianti Cartwright, and
Nadya Shakira have joined the cause to raise awareness regarding women’s health, access to essential care, and the importance of dignity in humanitarian responses.
Public Engagement
The initiative was formally unveiled at a private press dinner titled
"A Matter of Dignity" held in Jakarta on February 6, 2026. This event gathered foundation leaders, government officials, medical experts, business leaders, public figures, and media representatives, fostering a collaborative atmosphere around the initiative.
Post-distribution documentation, verified impact reports, and visual documentation from Aceh and Medan will be made available to the media following the deployment, ensuring transparency and accountability in the initiative's execution.
