MetLife Life Insurance Joins Japan's First Global Citizen Live Event to Promote Education and Healthcare

MetLife Partners with Global Citizen for Educational Initiatives

On June 18, 2026, MetLife Life Insurance Company participated as a partner in the first-ever music event "Global Citizen Live: Tokyo," organized by the international advocacy group Global Citizen. This collaboration emphasizes the importance of expanding educational opportunities and highlights the necessity of collective actions across society to address critical issues.

Global Citizen is renowned for its mission to eradicate extreme poverty and tackle social challenges such as lack of educational opportunities and disparities in healthcare access. The event aimed to leverage the power of music and entertainment to increase public understanding of these crucial social issues and encourage concrete actions from the audience.

Dirk Osteen, CEO of MetLife, represented the company at the event and spoke passionately about the need for expanding opportunities for children through education and sports. He stated, "Currently, around 250 million children globally lack sufficient access to educational opportunities. This challenge cannot be solved by a single entity. Through our partnership with Global Citizen, MetLife is committed to supporting initiatives that allow children to learn, grow, and live authentically. Today’s participation serves as a call-to-action for everyone to take ownership of this issue and translate it into meaningful actions."

Prior to the event, Global Citizen facilitated a policy dialogue that brought together diverse stakeholders, including government representatives, corporate leaders, startups, and NGOs. They engaged in insightful discussions surrounding social challenges, such as healthcare access worldwide. Dirk Osteen also addressed this policy dialogue's closing session, underscoring the significance of health as a foundation supporting people’s aspirations and futures. He added, "As a life insurance company, our goal transcends mere protection. We aim to empower individuals to live confidently and build their futures on solid ground. Health is a vital foundation closely connected to education and economic opportunities. It is crucial for government, enterprises, and civil societies to collaborate and transform dialogue into actionable results."

MetLife is advancing initiatives to broaden the potential of children globally through its global partnership with Global Citizen and the support of the MetLife Foundation's educational initiatives. As a founding donor of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, the MetLife Foundation has contributed $9 million to support access to quality education and enhance participation in sports. Alongside supporting educational opportunities, MetLife has continuously championed participatory initiatives like the "Footwork for Futures" social media challenge in collaboration with Global Citizen. This event aligns with a series of ongoing activities aimed at fostering broader public interest and involvement in addressing social challenges collaboratively.

In the context of these efforts, the MetLife Foundation has also announced the first recipients of grants from the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, alongside the launch of the social media challenge, further emphasizing its commitment to educational outreach.

MetLife operates under the purpose "Walking Together Towards a More Secure Future," dedicated to providing stability to individuals' future, enabling them to confidently move forward in life. The company plans to continue contributing to the resolution of social issues like expanding educational opportunities through collaboration with various stakeholders.
