The Mira Hong Kong Hosts a Culturally Rich Iftar Dinner

The Mira Hong Kong, a standout hotel recognized for its Muslim-friendly services, recently held its second annual Ramadan Iftar dinner on February 26. This event not only reinforces Hong Kong's position as a destination welcoming Muslim travelers but also highlights the importance of cultural hospitality in the region.

The luxurious event took place at the hotel’s rooftop ballroom, a venue that reflects a beautiful fusion of contemporary design and cultural elements. It was co-hosted by the Türkiye Consulate and Miramar Travel, showcasing a collaborative effort to merge hospitality with cultural appreciation. Last year marked the inception of this important event, which now serves to continue building on the city's efforts to strengthen its ties with Muslim visitors.

Among the nearly 200 guests, delegates from various sectors were present, including VIP government officials from the HKSAR, Legislative Council members, and heavyweights from Hong Kong's tourism and hospitality industries. Notably, the event welcomed 12 Consuls General representing countries across the Middle East and Asia, symbolizing a gathering that celebrated diversity and shared values within the local Muslim community.

The evening began with a heartfelt Quran recitation by Mufti Muhammad Arshad, the Chief Imam of Hong Kong. Following this, guests enjoyed a traditional breaking of the fast, set against a backdrop of magnificent decor that paid homage to Istanbul's architectural heritage, featuring motifs of the iconic Sultan Ahmed Mosque and exquisite İznik pottery. The atmosphere encapsulated the rich cultural exchanges that occur along the historical Silk Road—transcending time and place.

A sumptuous halal buffet prepared by The Mira’s talented culinary team took center stage at the Iftar dinner. Designed to reflect the region’s multicultural food scene, the buffet featured an array of Middle Eastern and Asian delicacies—highlighting the diverse gastronomic traditions that can be found in Hong Kong.

One of the key attractions for attendees was an interactive Ramazan Market that showcased culinary and cultural experiences. Guests could savor hot Turkish coffee brewed in the sand, taste traditional baklava stuffed with pistachios, and enjoy freshly baked Turkish simit. Additionally, the event included captivating performances, such as elegant Turkish shadow theater and live Ebru art demonstrations, with The Saffron Quartet playing authentic traditional music—all contributing to a sensory journey that honored the spirit of Ramadan.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing Hing emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting Muslim tourism and simplifying halal certification processes. “Our goal is clear – to enhance Muslim-friendly services for our residents and position Hong Kong as a warm destination for Muslim travelers from around the globe,” he stated, underscoring the potential for sustainable collaboration in enriching the city’s cultural fabric.

Alexander Wassermann, Head of Hotels and Serviced Apartments at Miramar Group, remarked on the significance of the evening, reiterating The Mira's dedication to hospitality that transcends barriers. “Hosting the Iftar dinner once again is a proud reminder of our role in connecting cultures through hospitality,” he expressed. “This annual celebration not only honors the spirit of Ramadan but also reinforces our commitment to enhancing services for faith-conscious travelers, making The Mira a pioneer in providing Muslim-friendly hospitality.”

As the event concluded, attendees left with a deeper appreciation for Hong Kong's cultural diversity and the invaluable experiences that come from embracing different traditions. The Mira Hong Kong continues to pave the way for a more inclusive future, enriching the city's vibrant tapestry of multicultural hospitality.
