Free Online Course Enhances Temporary Workers' Skills with Generative AI

Free Online Generative AI Course for Temporary Workers

The Japan Association of Temporary Staffing Companies is launching a free online course aimed at enhancing the skills and career development of temporary workers. This initiative allows participants from any staffing company to join and learn how to utilize generative AI effectively in their job roles. The course is set to take place from November 2026 to February 2027, featuring both beginner and intermediate levels, with each being offered twice. Participants can choose the schedule that suits them best, as the content for each session is identical.

For many temporary workers, questions such as “I want to use generative AI but don’t know where to start” or “I’ve tried it but didn’t get the expected results” are common. This course aims to address these concerns by providing practical training on leveraging generative AI in the workplace. Participants will learn the fundamentals of interacting with AI and techniques for enhancing response quality. They will also gain hands-on experience generating diagrams, images, and analyzing Excel data directly on their computers.

The goal is to foster a mindset where AI becomes a ‘work partner’ that not only improves daily task efficiency but also aids in skill enhancement. Participants are encouraged to engage in hands-on exercises, so it is recommended to have a PC that can run AI tools such as the registered accounts of ChatGPT or Copilot, although other AI applications are also permissible. If participants cannot access a suitable computer, they are still welcome to join for observational learning.

Course Schedule

  • - Beginner Level: 1) November 13, 2026, Friday 12:00-13:00 2) January 30, 2027, Saturday 10:00-11:00
  • - Intermediate Level: 1) December 16, 2026, Wednesday 19:00-20:30 2) February 20, 2027, Saturday 10:00-11:30
Participants can register for either level, and those who haven’t attended the beginner level are still welcome to sign up for the intermediate session. Additionally, participants are allowed to retake the same course, provided they register again.

Participant Feedback

Feedback from the course conducted in June showed a positive reaction from temporary workers. The focus on practical applications aimed to reflect their daily work situations, prompting attendees not only to learn about AI functionality but also to contemplate how to apply it in their roles. Participants reported understanding foundational concepts that they struggled to grasp independently and noted that hands-on experience helped them visualize practical applications.

Data Insights on AI and Temporary Work

Recent studies reveal that over 70% of staffing companies anticipate a growing necessity for generative AI skills in the next three years. An analysis from the Japan Association of Temporary Staffing Companies highlighted that 71.7% of 141 responding companies expect that staffing agencies will require skills related to generative AI in the near future, a significant increase compared to the current rate of 15.6%. Cultivating AI competency in temporary workers is thus becoming essential.

Additionally, nearly 60% of temporary workers are already using generative AI in their daily tasks. A recent web survey showed that 24.1% of respondents use AI regularly, with another 33% occasionally incorporating AI into their work routines. This indicates a considerable uptake of technology within the temporary workforce.

JASSA Career College and AI Programs

Through the JASSA Career College, the association offers an e-learning platform aimed at skill enhancement for temporary workers. With over 2,000 courses available, 45 are specifically geared towards AI, covering everything from the basics to practical applications. By the end of 2025, approximately 12,640 individuals have participated in these courses, reflecting a notable interest in technology-related education among temporary workers. In fact, AI-related courses comprised half of the top ten selected coursework during a recent enrollment period, underscoring the growing importance of generative AI skills in today’s job market.
