Overview of the Workshop

On March 28, 2026, Japan Women's University (JWU), located in Bunkyo City, Tokyo, organized a special class titled "Startup Workshop for High School Students Learning from Women Entrepreneurs." This event attracted around 30 high school second-year students interested in the proposed establishment of the Economics Department set to launch in April 2027. Participants engaged in discovering local challenges, exploring potential solutions, and presenting their findings while exchanging ideas with one another.

Keynote Speaker

The workshop featured Ai Aoki, CEO of Villina Japan, who was appointed as a special professor in the new department starting April 1, 2026. During her lecture, Aoki shared her entrepreneurial journey, addressing challenges faced by women in business and the lessons learned from aspiring to become a leader. Participants were inspired by her insights, particularly her belief that entrepreneurship stems from empathy towards others' struggles and discomfort.

Workshop Activities

Following the speech, participants engaged in a workshop that encouraged them to discuss issues faced by their parents or close acquaintances. The focus was on empathizing with the problems around them. One of the ideas presented was the Konepair app, designed to help families visualize promises made between parents and children, using stamps for tracking progress. This innovative concept showcased the creative Thinking of high school students, reflecting their ability to tackle real-world issues through technology.

Feedback from participants highlighted the abundance of entrepreneurial opportunities available in everyday life. Many realized the importance of meticulous planning in transforming ideas into reality, overcoming the preconceived notion that entrepreneurship was unattainable for students.
