Geronimo Power's Community Engagement in Texas: A Solar and Storage Project Update

Geronimo Power Hosts Community Celebration in Texas

Last week marked a significant milestone for Geronimo Power with the hosting of a community event in Falls County, Texas. This gathering was targeted at showcasing the ongoing construction of the Blevins Solar and Storage Project, which boasts an impressive capacity of 270 megawatts (MW) and 360 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage. Not only is this project pivotal from an energy generation perspective, but it also emphasizes the company's commitment to supporting local communities.

The event attracted a diverse group of participants, including community members, local leaders, project partners, and landowners, all gathered to celebrate the progress made on this ambitious clean energy project. In fact, the construction phase has already generated more than 360 jobs, underscoring the project's role as a substantial economic driver within Falls County.

As part of its commitment to the local economy, Geronimo Power has pledged over $1.3 million in donations through a dedicated charitable fund over the first two decades of the project's operations. Nathan Franzen, the Chief Project Delivery Officer at Geronimo Power, expressed enthusiasm regarding the project's expected financial benefits, stating, "Throughout the first 20 years of operations, we anticipate Blevins will provide over $33 million in direct economic benefit to the Falls County community."

One of the highlights of the event was a food truck festival featuring Texas cuisine, celebrating local gastronomy while connecting community members with their businesses. Participants in the event were also treated to guided tours of the construction site, providing an insightful behind-the-scenes look at how the project is coming together. Eric Grenz, Senior Vice President at Mortenson—responsible for the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) of the project—addressed attendees, honoring the productive collaboration with Geronimo Power. "It's been a privilege to work alongside the Geronimo Power team on such an impactful clean energy project, which will help support the long-term economic vitality of Falls County and add to this region's impressive sustainable power production," Grenz said.

The Blevins Solar and Storage Project has also secured power purchase agreements with major corporations like Fujifilm and Bristol Myers Squibb, which speaks volumes about its credibility and strategic importance. Both companies sent representatives to the community event to underscore their support and commitment to sustainability. Girish Menon, a Senior Director at FUJIFILM Holdings America Corporation, noted, "The Blevins project reflects our commitment to creating a cleaner future. Through this partnership, we're taking meaningful action to reduce our environmental impact and support a transition to renewable power sources that benefit the communities we serve."

Bristol Myers Squibb echoed this sentiment, with Adrian Metcalf, the Vice President of Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability, commenting on the partnership's significance: “It represents another important step in our journey to power Bristol Myers Squibb's operations with renewable energy. It reflects our broader commitment to sustainability—advancing climate goals while creating lasting value for the communities where we operate."
