Alley Cat Allies Celebrates Helping 5000 Cats with Innovative TNR Program in Atlantic County

Alley Cat Allies Reaches Impressive TNR Milestone

Alley Cat Allies, a leading organization dedicated to the welfare of cats, has achieved a remarkable milestone by providing assistance to 5,000 cats in Atlantic County, New Jersey. This accomplishment is a result of their innovative Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, in collaboration with the Humane Society of Atlantic County (HSAC).

The organization has recently announced a new grant aimed at helping an additional 1,000 cats and kittens over the coming months. The grant focuses specifically on the community cats of Atlantic County, which are unowned felines that primarily live outdoors. Thanks to Alley Cat Allies, these cats will receive crucial spaying, neutering, and vaccinations as well as access to a community cat food bank that serves more than 800 cats daily.

"Alley Cat Allies has dedicated decades to protecting cats in Atlantic County, and this latest collaboration has significantly elevated our impact. We are proud to provide life-changing care to over 5,000 cats in the past three years, and we look forward to helping many more," stated Charlene Pedrolie, the organization's president and chief operating officer.

The recent success of the TNR program was highlighted by the surgery of Willy, the 5,000th cat to be helped through this initiative. Willy has undergone neutering, vaccination, and eartipping, symbolizing the vital care received by countless other community cats. TNR is recognized as the only humane approach to managing community cat populations effectively. During this process, cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and then returned to their habitats, thereby enhancing their lives, preventing them from being sent to shelters, and reducing stray cat populations.

Furthermore, the new grant will not only cover the TNR costs but also address any additional veterinary needs that the cats may have, which include treatment for common ailments such as fleas and respiratory infections. The program will also provide Convenia® injections to tackle common feline infections, ensuring that even the most complex medical needs are met.

Steve Dash, the executive director of HSAC, praised the collaboration, stating, "The partnership between HSAC and Alley Cat Allies is a model for effective community TNR programs. Collaboration is crucial, and through Alley Cat Allies’ support and our teamwork with local advocates, we are reaching more community cats than ever before."

Together, Alley Cat Allies and HSAC have set an ambitious goal to assist 1,000 more cats by the fall of 2025. This mission is not just a numerical achievement but a reflection of their dedication to improving the lives of cats and the communities they inhabit.
