This effort aims to empower elementary school students by ensuring they can actively participate in physical activities, sports, and their favorite hobbies without the worry of their wigs shifting or concerns about their appearances.

Understanding the Need

The ages of 9 to 12 years are often referred to as the 'Golden Age' for physical development, a critical period where children's athletic abilities flourish. However, the anxiety surrounding wig stability and the concern for how they look can deter many children from participating in sports or physical education. By launching this project, Harih hopes to inspire children to embrace their passions confidently, without the limitations that come from their hair loss or wig complications.

The Story Behind the Initiative

Harih's CEO, Junko Ikeno, knows firsthand the struggles that accompany hair loss, having been affected by alopecia herself. Her personal experiences fuel her understanding of the psychological impacts of wig insecurity on children's daily lives and freedom.

Since the launch of the Sports Wig® in May 2022, the company has received numerous inquiries from families seeking suitable options for their children, particularly those who hesitate to join in school sports due to their wigs. The project aims not only to provide wigs but also to create an environment where children feel supported rather than singled out.

Project Goals and Activities

The 'Kids Support Project 2026' aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding medical wigs and to allow children to enjoy sports without reservations. From August 25 to September 30, 2026, applications will be accepted for children aged 6 to 12 who require medical wigs due to substantial hair loss. Selection will be based on their current sports involvement, aspirations, and individual stories.

Notably, Akihiro Konno, a former middleweight champion from the Japan Kickboxing Association and a recognized sports compliance officer, will participate in the selection process, ensuring that the project aligns with the true spirit of sportsmanship and support.

Innovative Wig Features

The Sports Wig® is designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind. To ensure a secure fit, the wig incorporates HUMOFIT®, a cutting-edge material developed by Mitsui Chemicals, which adapts to body temperature. This innovation minimizes discomfort from tightness while maximizing breathability and lightness. The goal of this project is for each child to perceive receiving a wig not as a charity, but rather as encouragement for their sporting challenges. Plans are in motion to develop an animation project that highlights the children's struggles and victories in sports, facilitating broader community support through a narrative format.

Call for Community Support

Harih acknowledges the ongoing challenges in securing funding for wigs, especially for children with alopecia. To address this disparity, a crowdfunding campaign will be launched to help cover the production costs of the 10 wigs earmarked for the project, inviting community members to support the cause and foster a more inclusive environment for these young athletes.
