HoteKan's Remarkable Journey in Triangle Ehime
HoteKan, an innovative facility management app developed by FRINGE, a Tokyo-based company, has been selected to continue its participation in the Triangle Ehime 2.0 digital implementation project for three consecutive years, covering 2023 to 2025. This recognition further underscores HoteKan's pivotal role in enhancing management across various facilities, including hotels, bathing facilities, and forays into educational institutions.
The app gained prominence last year when it was adopted at the historic Dogo Onsen Honkan. Building on this success, HoteKan aims to extend its use beyond accommodation settings, focusing this year on school facility management. The introduction of HoteKan in educational establishments aims to address prevalent issues such as workforce shortages, aging facilities, and the need for knowledge sharing and continuity in management. This is particularly crucial in rural areas where not only facility management personnel are needed, but also surrounding maintenance service providers, such as plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi specialists, are facing similar shortages.
Since its initial acceptance into the Ehime Digital Implementation Acceleration Project two years ago, HoteKan has been operational in numerous facilities centered around Dogo Onsen. By streamlining processes from discovering equipment failures to coordinating with decision-makers and repair contractors, the platform not only enhances operational efficiency but also accumulates valuable data that can be shared, driving up facility values and reducing communication overhead.
This year, while increasing deployments in tourist accommodations, HoteKan also plans to expand into schools. The app aims to facilitate collaboration among teachers, assistant principals, principals, joint administrative offices, local boards of education, and community repair contractors. The pilot program will start in 13 elementary and junior high schools in Ainanshi, with plans to expand to other municipalities thereafter.
To improve its functionality, HoteKan is introducing upgraded features, including inspection capabilities and an annual facility management planning calendar. This will allow for the generation of predictive maintenance plans based on repair data analyzed through AI, enhancing the overall proactive management aspect of facilities.
Understanding Triangle Ehime 2.0
The Ehime Prefectural Government initiated the Digital Implementation Acceleration Project in 2022 to foster digital solutions aimed at promoting digital enterprise growth, enhancing local operators’ profitability, and propelling the region's development. The HoteKan and Triangle Ehime collaboration is part of this ongoing project that seeks to leverage technology for local problem-solving, selected for continuity from 2023 to 2025.

What is HoteKan?
HoteKan empowers cleaning staff to report any equipment issues in guest rooms using their smartphones by taking photos and entering details of the condition. Hotel personnel and contractors can then view these issues within the app, allowing for effective communication through in-app chat to coordinate responses. After services like estimates are processed and repairs completed, documentation and reports are stored digitally, promoting a paperless environment. Searching for similar issues by incident or room number is simplified, and routine checks, such as fire equipment inspections or elevator maintenance, are easily organized, reinforcing the app’s efficiency in facility management.
