The Rise of Face Type Diagnosis®: An Asian Expansion from Japan

The Emergence of Face Type Diagnosis® in Asia

Japan's unique approach to beauty analysis, Face Type Diagnosis®, is making significant strides across Asia. This innovative method, developed by the Japan Face Type Diagnosis Association, focuses on understanding individual face shapes to identify the most flattering clothing, hairstyles, and makeup. With a special seminar held in Busan, South Korea, in August 2025, the program has captured immense attention in the beauty and fashion sectors locally.

Insights from the Seminar in Busan

The seminar organized by the Japan Face Type Diagnosis Association brought together 31 professionals, primarily from the beauty and fashion industries, eager to learn and acquire certifications in this pioneering method. Many attendees expressed a strong desire to obtain their credentials, showcasing the high level of interest in Korea for this innovative diagnostic approach.

The International Reception

Face Type Diagnosis® has been increasingly recognized not only in Japan but also in several other Asian countries. In January 2025, a translation of the methodology’s founder, Mitsuko Okada’s book, was released in Korea, sparking a positive response among readers.
Family professionals and enthusiasts have embraced the Face Type Advisor certification, with the first certified instructor now guiding professionals in Korea. The training course, Face Type Advisor Level 1, has officially launched, marking a significant step in the program's international growth.

In addition, Face Type Diagnosis® has expanded its reach in other Asian markets:
  • - Taiwan: Five local certified instructors have emerged, fostering a growing community around the method.
  • - Hong Kong: One instructor has also begun teaching courses in the region.
  • - Translations of the foundational text have made waves in Korea, China, and Taiwan, further widening its readership and influence across the region.

What is Face Type Diagnosis®?

Face Type Diagnosis® serves as a comprehensive method for analyzing facial features—such as contours and individual parts—categorizing them into eight distinct types. This allows users to derive scientifically-backed conclusions regarding suitable clothing, hairstyles, and makeup, enhancing positive perceptions of their appearance.
The methodology not only fosters self-awareness and confidence but also promotes an appreciation for diversity, making it an increasingly popular choice in educational settings, corporate training, and the fashion world.

Future Directions for Expansion

Looking ahead, the Japan Face Type Diagnosis Association is committed to broadening its impact across Asia, starting from the developments in Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. By collaborating with local certified instructors, the initiative aims to tailor courses that resonate with cultural nuances in each country.
The ultimate goal is to cultivate a culture that encourages individuals to understand and embrace their unique characteristics.
