Launch of the Well-being School Journey by JTB and Partners to Redefine School Trips

In a collaborative effort to innovate educational travel, JTB, JR East, Hato Bus, and JAL are set to launch a new unit-based school trip program called the Well-being School Journey in the fiscal year 2027. Initially aimed at schools in the Tohoku region, this program is designed for middle and high schools with fewer than 40 students per grade, addressing the unique needs of smaller educational institutions.

This innovative program offers a one-stop solution that combines transportation, accommodation, and educational activities, thereby reducing the logistical burden on schools. Traditionally, schools have had to coordinate these components separately, complicating the planning process for school trips. The Well-being School Journey streamlines this process by packaging these elements together to create a hassle-free experience for educators.

Further enriching the program, the four collaborating companies will provide career exploration content, including direct interaction with JTB employees and a visit to JAL's Haneda Operations Center. These activities offer students an invaluable opportunity to meet professionals in various fields, sparking connections that may guide them towards their future careers.

The need for such a program has grown, particularly in light of declining birth rates which have led to smaller school enrollments. Many of these institutions face obstacles securing transportation options like charter buses, often forcing them to abandon plans for long-distance trips or resulting in increased costs compared to larger schools. The Well-being School Journey aims to level the playing field by offering a standardized pricing model, making it simpler for small schools to design and manage their travel itineraries without the fear of exorbitant costs.

Students participating in the program will have a unique itinerary that includes visits to Tokyo Disneyland®, along with original content such as career learning workshops. With a focus on enhancing the well-being of students as they engage with their surroundings, the program intends to facilitate not just travel but meaningful interactions and personal growth opportunities.

The Concept of the Well-being School Journey:

At the heart of this program is a philosophy that values the experiences students will share and the meaningful connections they will make. It prioritizes not just where students go, but who they meet and how these interactions may shape their perspectives. By reducing the burdens on schools, the program encourages quality time between educators and students, which in turn enhances the overall well-being of the participants during their journey.

Looking Ahead:

As part of creating a bridge between various regions and the metropolitan area, the initiative aims to expand nationally. Future plans include enabling schools to apply directly via the web, fostering a user-friendly experience that encourages more institutions to engage with the program. Through initiatives like the Well-being School Journey, JTB, JR East, Hato Bus, and JAL are committed to addressing social challenges cooperatively to create smiles and opportunities for the next generation.
