Hancock Regional Hospital Achieves 12th Consecutive 'A' Grade for Patient Safety in Indiana
Hancock Regional Hospital Earns Remarkable Safety Recognition
Hancock Regional Hospital, located in Greenfield, Indiana, has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to patient safety by being named the top-performing hospital in the state for this cycle. The esteemed Leapfrog Group awarded Hancock Regional its 12th consecutive 'A' Hospital Safety Grade, marking a significant achievement as only 4% of hospitals nationwide have managed to maintain an 'A' rating for more than ten cycles.
The Leapfrog Group evaluates hospitals across the United States using comprehensive data and evidence-based measures. These evaluations account for errors, accidents, infections, and the preventive systems that hospitals have in place. The 'A' grade signifies that Hancock Regional Hospital has consistently achieved some of the lowest rates of preventable harm, including serious complications and healthcare-associated infections.
"Being named Indiana's top hospital for safety, and maintaining an 'A' for 12 consecutive cycles showcases our enduring commitment to delivering safe and high-quality care," said Steve Long, the CEO of Hancock Health. He further emphasized that these results are the outcome of years of dedicated efforts aimed at reducing infections, preventing complications, and enhancing the patient experience.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade promotes transparency and is focused specifically on preventable medical errors, injuries, and infections. It is the only hospital rating program solely dedicated to these issues. The classification process is peer-reviewed and open to the public, with grades updated twice a year.
Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, acknowledged Hancock Regional Hospital's hard work: "Hancock Regional Hospital deserves recognition for its unwavering focus on protecting patients and delivering safe care, earning an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade for 12 consecutive cycles. Sustaining this level of excellence over time shows a true, organization-wide commitment to making patient safety a top priority every single day."
In addition to this remarkable recognition, Hancock Regional Hospital has also earned accolades from the Lown Institute, being named one of the nation's safest hospitals, and was listed in Newsweek's America's Best-in-State Hospitals 2026. The hospital also appeared on Becker's Hospital Review's Top 100 Community Hospitals list and received recognition from the Indiana Hospital Association for its excellence in maternal and infant health.
