iotaMotion's Breakthrough U.S. Patent for Robotic Cochlear Implant Technology

iotaMotion Announces Major U.S. Patent Achievement

In a groundbreaking announcement, iotaMotion, Inc., a pioneer in robotic-assisted systems for cochlear implant surgery, has unveiled the granting of U.S. Patent No. 12,311,173. This patent represents a significant enhancement to iotaMotion’s portfolio of intellectual property and a crucial step toward advancing cochlear implantation technology beyond human capabilities.

The patented technology encompasses advanced systems that utilize separate positioning and power components designed to optimize the intraoperative use of robot-controlled positioning. Mike Lobinsky, the CEO of iotaMotion, stated, "This patent signifies an important milestone for iotaMotion as we continue to expand our intellectual property portfolio and technological roadmap."

This announcement follows recently awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) aimed at leveraging the core technological platform of the iotaSOFT® insertion system. Notably, these grants include a Phase I award to Qualia Oto to explore potential robotic assistance applications in matrix insertion using novel shape-shifting polymers, as well as another Phase I award to iotaMotion for developing a navigation-based cochlear implant insertion system to optimize the trajectory during placement.

"We take pride in our leading-edge initiatives being recognized through this patent. Together with our recent grant-funded initiatives, this milestone underscores the role our technology plays in clinical practice as well as advancing research to shape the future of cochlear implantation," added Costa Nikou, iotaMotion’s Chief Technology Officer.

The company remains committed to pushing the boundaries of cochlear implantation through collaborations with both academic and industrial partners. Looking to the future, iotaMotion envisions a seamless integration of robotic assistance within cochlear implantation, incorporating technologies like navigation and electrocochleography.

With hundreds of successful insertions using the iotaSOFT insertion system completed across over 25 centers in the United States, iotaMotion is set to continue its commercial expansion while innovating its product roadmap. This commitment to innovation positions the company to lead the transformation of cochlear surgical procedures.
