Huawei Showcases Six Innovative Power Projects at Global Electric Power Summit 2026

Huawei's Groundbreaking Initiatives in Energy

On September 24, 2026, Huawei hosted the Global Electric Power Summit 2026 as part of its HUAWEI CONNECT event. The summit had a clear focus: “AI × Energy: Unlocking a New Power System.” It attracted over 600 participants including representatives from leading energy companies, industry associations, ecosystem partners, and media, all aimed at exploring innovative ways to combine the energy transformation with digital and intelligent technologies.

Huawei used this platform to present six exemplary projects from around the world, showcasing comprehensive digital transformations within the energy sector—from power generation to consumption across both domestic and international markets. This initiative marks a pivotal shift in the energy industry, transitioning from a one-dimensional approach to a synergistic relationship between energy and computational power.

Transforming the Energy Landscape

The global energy arena is currently undergoing significant transformations. Decentralized renewable energy sources have become essential in reducing reliance on external sources while simultaneously aligning grid stability with universal access to electricity. Philippe Adam, Secretary-General of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), highlighted during his address that the energy sector is in a profound transition fueled by the energy revolution, AI data centers, and digitalization.

With intertwined challenges such as the energy transformation towards renewables, intelligent upgrades, and the lack of electricity access for 700 million people worldwide, AI has emerged as a crucial necessity for contemporary power grids. According to Huawei, the low-voltage domain—which has been a bottleneck for power systems—is anticipated to become a central application area for AI in the future.

Addressing the low-voltage management gap necessitates a systematic and transparent approach. This reliance on six core capabilities—observability, measurability, controllability, adaptability, tradability, and traceability—is vital for long-term sustainability.

Emphasizing Transparency and Efficiency

David Sun, CEO of Huawei's Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, shared insights on how enhancing transparency in the low-voltage sphere translates into faster data retrieval, improved quality, and higher cost efficiency. To unlock this new power supply system, industry stakeholders need to prioritize three core areas: cultivating digital talent, establishing digital infrastructure, and implementing a digitally managed asset base.

Huawei also underscored the significance of scenario-based implementations as demonstrated by the six global showcase projects presented at the summit. These projects included:
1. The digital and intelligent grid from Brazil’s CEMIG.
2. The demonstration zone for new power systems integrating distribution and microgrids at the Guangzhou Baiyun Power Supply Bureau under China Southern Power Grid.
3. The intelligent diagnostics and operations of the new power distribution network in Shaoshan, Hunan.
4. Smart power supply and consumption initiatives in Jiangxi, China.
5. The digital ±800 kV UHV converter station in Shaoxing, Zhejiang.
6. The power communication network in Liaoning, China.

These initiatives together illustrate successful practices across diverse scenarios, covering the entire electricity process in the age of intelligence.

Looking Forward

As Huawei looks to the future, the company will continue to leverage its strengths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). By utilizing a three-tiered framework of metrics, architectures, and technologies, Huawei plans to collaborate with global energy firms, standard organizations, and ecosystem partners to drive innovation and promote modernization in the sector, ultimately fostering a more prosperous ecosystem.

In a world increasingly reliant on advanced technologies, initiatives like Huawei's serve as benchmarks for blending the infinite potential of AI with sustainable energy practices. As the energy sector evolves, such transformations will undoubtedly play a crucial role in addressing pressing global challenges and paving the way for a resilient, eco-friendly future.
