3rd Hasegawa Children's Competition to Celebrate Obon
Starting from July 17, 2026, Hasegawa Co., Ltd., known for its sales of Buddhist altars and grave markers, will host its 3rd Hasegawa Children's Competition. This year, the contest invites elementary school students across Japan to express their reflections on the Obon festival through drawings and crafts. Participants can submit their creations via a dedicated entry form on the company's official website until September 10, 2026.
Aims of the Contest
The core purpose of this competition is to encourage children to think of their ancestors and foster family bonds through the important Japanese tradition of Obon. This event is not only a creative outlet but also an opportunity for students to present their projects in school as a part of their summer break assignments.
Hasegawa aims to continue the legacy of Obon culture while providing children with experiences that evoke feelings of gratitude and appreciation for life. By engaging in this project with their families, they hope to spark conversations about Obon memories.
Reflections from Previous Years
The previous year's competition received heartfelt feedback, with many families expressing how the experience led to deeper conversations about Obon and created meaningful interactions among family members. For the upcoming year, Hasegawa looks forward to showcasing the imaginative works of children that will help connect Japanese culture to the future.
