RTX's Raytheon Secures $590 Million Contract for Advanced Jammer System
RTX's Raytheon Secures $590 Million Contract for Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band
In a significant move for U.S. defense technology, Raytheon, a business unit of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has recently been granted a robust follow-on production contract valued at $590 million by the U.S. Navy. This contract focuses on the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band (NGJ-MB) system, a cutting-edge project aimed at enhancing the electronic warfare capabilities of naval forces.
The NGJ-MB is not a solo endeavor; it is a collaborative development and production initiative involving the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), designed to modernize and strengthen allied military capabilities. The components of this comprehensive contract include the provision of shipsets, support equipment, necessary spare parts, and essential non-recurring engineering support to facilitate the deployment and efficiency of the system.
Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon, emphasized the transformative nature of the NGJ-MB in delivering vital combat capabilities. She asserted, "NGJ-MB is a revolutionary offensive electronic attack system for the joint force that puts a critical combat capability in the hands of our Navy warfighters." This statement underlines the commitment of Raytheon to collaborate closely with the U.S. Navy, ensuring that the NGJ-MB system is operational as swiftly as possible.
The NGJ-MB is designed to be implemented on the EA-18G GROWLER® aircraft, specifically developed to confront advanced radar threats, communications systems, data links, and a range of non-traditional radio frequency challenges. The introduction of the NGJ-MB significantly diminishes adversaries' targeting ranges, disrupts their kill chains, and enhances the effectiveness of kinetic weapons targeting capabilities. With the advancements incorporated in this system, naval crews can engage multiple targets concurrently while operating effectively at extended ranges.
This high-stakes development underscores the crucial role that Raytheon plays in enhancing the technological superiority of U.S. military forces. The operational work stemming from this contract will unfold across various locations, including McKinney, Texas; Forest, Mississippi; El Segundo, California; and Fort Wayne, Indiana, extending through 2028.
