FANCL's First Hybrid Event for Kids: Skincare and UV Protection Workshop

A New Approach to Kids' Skincare Education

FANCL, a renowned Japanese skincare brand, recently hosted its inaugural hybrid event titled "Kids Skincare and UV Protection Workshop" on July 24-25, 2026. This unique educational initiative attracted around 600 families nationwide, combining on-site activities at FANCL Ginza Square with online participants via Zoom. This dual format not only made the event inclusive but also provided a platform for meaningful family engagement in skincare education.

Understanding the Challenges

In recent years, children's skin faces an increasingly harsh environment due to rising temperatures and UV radiation levels. With underdeveloped barrier functions and fluctuating moisture levels, children's skin is particularly vulnerable to external factors. Studies show that by age eight, oil production drastically increases, creating an imbalance that can lead to various skin issues. Understanding these challenges, FANCL emphasizes the importance of instilling proper skincare habits and sun protection strategies early on for the longevity of healthy skin.

The Workshop Activities

The recent summer workshop focused on educating both children and their parents through a fun and interactive format. It was organized as a part of FANCL's ongoing commitment to SDGs education, incorporating quizzes, experiments, and hands-on skincare practices to ensure participants could engage actively while learning about their skin and the importance of UV protection.

1. Visual Learning with Skin Models

The workshop began with an explanation of skin functions and structures, highlighted by a custom-built model demonstrating skin turnover. Attendees were captivated, with online participants flooding the chat with questions and comments, sparking excitement and community engagement instantly.

2. Discovering Skin Conditions

Participants actively measured their skin's moisture and oil levels using specialized tools, revealing that many children experience dryness. The online audience engaged in guessing games about these results while gaining insights into typical skin characteristics for their age group.

3. Practical Skincare Techniques

Using FANCL’s products like the Clear-Up Foaming Cleanser and Gel Milk, all attendees participated in practical sessions of cleansing and moisturizing. Afterward, they re-measured their skin's moisture and oil levels, leading to astonished reactions over noticeable improvements. Online participants similarly shared their experiences, noting significant differences in hydration between treated and untreated skin.

4. UV Awareness Through Experiments

The latter part of the workshop incorporated fun, educational experiments to illustrate UV exposure. Using a rainbow model, children learned what UV rays are and conducted tests to compare the effectiveness of sunscreens based on color changes observed on beads—visually emphasizing the unseen dangers of UV exposure.

Shifts in Attitudes

Analyzing over 5,728 chat comments from participants throughout the two days revealed significant transformations in the children's attitudes. Initially expressing surprise and curiosity, their responses evolved towards a desire for continuous skincare engagement, as many voiced wishes to integrate learned habits into daily routines.

High Satisfaction Rates

Survey results indicate a remarkable 98.9% of children felt they gained a better understanding of skin and UV concepts, while 99.5% acknowledged the importance of skincare. Parents echoed this sentiment with a satisfaction rate of 99.7%, appreciating how the workshop reinforced essential skincare education for their children.

Comments highlighted the impactful hands-on experiences and the dual educational format that maintained engagement throughout the session. Parents requested more such interactive programs, reflecting the program’s success and its potential for future offerings.

Looking Ahead

FANCL plans to continue providing these invaluable educational experiences through its ongoing Kids Skincare Workshops and Kids Skin Counseling across locations. By nurturing children's understanding of their skin, FANCL aims to foster a generation that prioritizes skin health and well-being long into the future.
