On November 20, 2025, in observance of National Rural Health Day, Adena Health proudly announced that its critical access hospitals—Adena Fayette Medical Center, Adena Greenfield Medical Center, and Adena Pike Medical Center—have received the prestigious 2025 Performance Leadership Awards from The Chartis Center for Rural Health. This recognition highlights Adena’s commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services in rural communities across southern Ohio.

The awards celebrate excellence in various performance categories, underscoring the essential role that rural hospitals play in their communities. Adena Greenfield and Pike Medical Centers were particularly noted for their outstanding quality, ranking among only seven rural hospitals in Ohio to receive such recognition. Adena Fayette Medical Center was acknowledged for its remarkable outcomes, being one of only 19 hospitals statewide to attain this level of distinction. These accolades position Adena Health's hospitals in the top 25% of rural hospitals throughout the nation, emphasizing their dedication to enhancing healthcare access and quality in the region.

"This recognition reflects the strength of our people and our mission to serve rural communities with excellence," stated Josh McCoy, senior operations executive officer at Adena Fayette and Adena Greenfield Medical Centers. He further noted that the healthcare professionals at Adena take immense pride in delivering safe and high-quality care, allowing patients to receive treatment without the need to travel far from their homes.

Furthermore, Andrew Bauer, senior operations executive officer of Adena Pike Medical Center, echoed this sentiment. He believes that the recognition affirms their ongoing efforts to not only meet but exceed the expectations of healthcare delivery in rural settings. "These honors reaffirm that our teams are not just meeting standards—they're setting them, strengthening local access to exceptional care," he declared.

The Performance Leadership Awards are derived from the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, which serves as a crucial benchmark for evaluating rural hospital performance. This index is widely utilized by rural hospitals, health systems, hospital associations, and state offices to assess various operational and financial facets that impact healthcare delivery.

Michael Topchik, executive director of the Chartis Center for Rural Health, commented, "Quality and outcomes are cornerstones of healthcare delivery across rural America. This year’s recipients of the Performance Leadership Awards are establishing a standard of excellence for others to follow." His remarks highlight the importance of recognizing strong performances within the rural healthcare sector, especially on National Rural Health Day.
