Enhancing Global Presence of Japanese Firms: The Role of Strategic Partnerships

Enhancing Global Presence of Japanese Firms

On October 15, 2025, CARMA, a company specializing in global PR monitoring and effectiveness measurement, held a reception in Tokyo where it unveiled its latest research titled "Japan Brand 2025." This analysis scrutinized how major Japanese corporations are covered in international media, attracting executives and communication specialists who actively exchanged views on factors that shape the global perception and brand recognition of Japanese companies.

Key Findings of the Analysis

Conducted over the span of 2024, the analysis focused on 12,000 English articles from major international media outlets. The findings revealed that strategic partnerships and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) significantly amplify the international exposure of Japanese firms. Among various industries, the automotive sector garnered the most coverage, focusing on the competitive landscape of the EV market and ongoing safety concerns. Conversely, the strong sales of hybrid vehicles bolstered brand trust. In the technology sector, centered on AI, semiconductors, and battery technologies, Japanese firms' R&D capabilities and innovations received high praise. Additionally, the retail and financial services sectors have seen an uptick in reporting due to overseas expansions and growing investor interest.

Regional Insights

Regionally, the United States dominated the media coverage, constituting 25% of total reports, primarily focusing on significant investments and partnerships in automotive and technology firms. In Europe, cooperative endeavors in defense, energy, and advanced manufacturing were key focal points, while Singapore emerged as a critical reporting hub in Asia, drawing considerable attention.

Sectorial Reporting Tone: Trustworthiness and Resilience of Japanese Companies

Overall, Japanese companies seem to maintain a generally positive international standing. The manufacturing and technology sectors continue to receive favorable evaluations based on trust, quality, and innovation, yet there is an increasing expectation for enhanced environmental responsibility and governance. In the financial sector, stable performance amidst changing interest rate policies was reported, resulting in a neutral reporting tone.

Keiichiro Watui, Senior Client Service Manager at CARMA Asia Japan, remarked, "The global perception of Japanese companies is shifting from the superiority of manufacturing to strategic reconstruction. At CARMA, we strive to support Japanese companies' communication activities in a clear and measurable manner to effectively convey this transformation to the world."

Research Overview

The survey targeted Japanese corporations listed in the Fortune Global 500 and analyzed 12,000 articles released from January to December 2024. It identified the tone of coverage, main themes, and exposure drivers that promote reporting. The target media included international newspapers, business magazines, and prominent online platforms.
