A groundbreaking performance titled "Over the Wall - The Life of Actress Marlene Dietrich" will be presented by the talented drag queen, singer, and playwright Esmuranda. This much-anticipated one-man musical will be held at the Roppongi Tricolore Theater for a limited two-day engagement!

Esmuranda, who originally staged this production in April 2017 as part of the short one-man musical anthology, will reprise her role, showcasing Dietrich's illustrious journey from Berlin to becoming an international cinema icon known for her performances in films like The Blue Angel and Morocco.

Having performed in various adaptations since its initial run, including renditions by notable artists such as Mutsumi Fukuma and Kaisei Nishimura, this new presentation promises a captivating mix of homage and entertainment. Accompanying Esmuranda on piano will be the talented Chakku Sawabata, enhancing the musical experience.

The Story

The narrative revolves around Marlene Dietrich, who rose to fame during the early years of cinema. Born in Berlin, she captured the world’s attention as a glamorous star, mesmerizing audiences with her stunning performances and unique style. However, her life took a turn during World War II, as she made the bold decision to denounce her homeland under the Nazi regime and become an American citizen.

During the war, she supported troops by performing in perilous conditions, offering solace through her music amidst the chaos of battle. About Esmuranda

Esmuranda, born in Osaka in 1972, has dedicated her career to the dynamic world of drag. Since 1994, she has been a prominent figure in events, media, and stage performances, as well as engaging in educational talks for schools and local communities. Esmuranda’s artistic footstep extends further, having obtained the Heaven Artist License in Tokyo in 2002 and debuting as a singer in 2018 as a member of the diva unit “Happou Fubijin.” Her prowess in writing was recognized when she won the Excellence Award at the 21st Century New Author Scenario Award by TV Asahi in 2012, leading to a career in screenwriting for dramas, films, and theater productions.
