Euisun Chung Re-elected to Lead Korea Archery Association, Promoting Growth in the Sport

Euisun Chung Re-elected as KAA President

Euisun Chung, the Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, has been re-elected to serve as the 14th president of the Korea Archery Association (KAA). This marks another four-year term for Chung, who will lead the organization from January 2025 to January 2029. With a robust tenure since 2005, Chung's leadership has transformed the Korean archery landscape, significantly enhancing its competitiveness both nationally and internationally.

The re-election was a testament to the election committee's recognition of Chung's efforts in establishing a strategic long-term vision for Korean archery. Under his guidance, the KAA has not only improved its administrative operations but also achieved financial independence. Chung's initiatives have supported developing talent and bolstering the sport’s profile in Korea, which has resulted in the KAA becoming one of the nation's most stable and transparent sports organizations.

Transformative Leadership

Since he took office, Chung has been successful in integrating corporate management principles into sports administration. His approach has fostered a heightened level of public interest and financial support for archery. Chung has modernized the KAA’s operations, introducing fair selection processes and emphasizing transparency and excellence. Innovations in technology have also played a vital role during his presidency, with improvements in athlete performance driven by R&D capabilities from Hyundai.

Korean archery has seen remarkable success during Chung's leadership, notably at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the national team achieved the extraordinary feat of winning five gold medals. This success included a historic tenth consecutive win in the women's team events, solidifying Korea’s dominance in the sport. The growth of competitive archery is evident; the number of archers has risen significantly, from just 1,633 in 2005 to about 2,800 in 2024, demonstrating increased engagement and interest in the sport.

Additionally, recreational archery has seen latent growth since the KAA began initiatives in 2016—an increase from zero to 778 archers spread across 195 teams speaks volumes. Chung's commitment to the development of the sport is evident, fostering a new generation of archers while enhancing Korea's global standing in archery.

Enhancing International Presence

Chung has also made significant strides on the international stage. Serving as the eighth president of the Asian Archery Federation since 2005, he has implemented programs to promote archery across Asia. The KAA's forward-thinking strategies include the introduction of advanced training technologies, such as personal training robots and sophisticated posture analysis systems, which have been pivotal in preparing athletes for the 2024 Olympics.

Under Chung's leadership, Korean national archers have collectively amassed an impressive total of 18 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals at the Olympics, paving the way for continued success in events like the Asian Games and the Archery World Cup. Furthermore, Hyundai Motor Group has been a staunch supporter of Korean archery for over 40 years; a legacy that began with the Group’s former Chairman and continues to flourish under Chung's leadership through new sponsorship agreements with the World Archery Federation until 2025.

This re-election not only marks a continuation of Chung's impactful leadership but also serves as a commitment to elevating the sport of archery globally. With Hyundai's support, initiatives like the Hyundai Archery World Cup and World Archery Championships further expand archery's reach.
