Samantha Thavasa Launches Craft Series Using Minami Sanriku Wakame Sheep Leather

Samantha Thavasa's Innovative Craft Project

Samantha Thavasa Japan Limited, under the leadership of CEO Koji Furuya, is making waves with its latest initiative — crafting exquisite products using leather derived from the Minami Sanriku Wakame Sheep. This project stands as a beacon of hope for local industries striving to recover from the devastating impacts of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

This initiative stems from a commitment to revitalize the region of Minami Sanriku in Miyagi Prefecture, a place heavily affected by the natural disaster on March 11, 2011. Partnering with local entities involved in NPO activities aimed at post-disaster reconstruction, the company aims not only to support but to celebrate the unique offerings of the area. The Minami Sanriku Wakame Sheep, raised in this region and known for their delicious meat often showcased in Genghis Khan, represent both culinary excellence and sustainable farming practices.

About the Minami Sanriku Wakame Sheep Project

Located along the southern Sannriku coast, Minami Sanriku is home to Sato Umi Farm, an initiative dedicated to discovering and promoting the unique appeal of the region. Their ethos revolves around coexisting harmoniously with nature while enriching the lives of both people and the environment through the cultivation of local resources. Surrounded by the bountiful sea, the farm nurtures the Wakame Sheep, which are raised lovingly with the utmost attention and care, benefiting from minerals found in the local seaweeds.

As the demand for high-quality sheep meat rises, the leather that results from this farming practices often faces disposal under current environmental standards. Understanding the importance of sustainability, Samantha Thavasa seeks to provide value through its original craftsmanship, creating a product that not only embodies style and quality but also signifies a commitment to environmental responsibility and community welfare.
