Miami International Holdings Enhances Futures Trading with OCC Clearing Deal
Miami International Holdings and OCC Partnership
In a significant move to enhance the trading environment for its futures market, Miami International Holdings, Inc. (MIAX) has recently finalized a clearing and settlement agreement with the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC). This arrangement will bring substantial benefits to the participants of the MIAX Futures market by allowing them to leverage cross-margining capabilities.
Understanding the Agreement
The agreement effectively allows market participants who are members of OCC to achieve capital efficiencies by cross-margining products traded on MIAX Futures against complementary products available on other securities exchanges, including MIAX itself. This development is set to streamline trading operations and reduce collateral requirements, thereby facilitating a more effective trading environment.
Thomas P. Gallagher, Chairman and CEO of MIAX, expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration with the OCC, stating, "We are pleased to build on our longstanding relationship with OCC and bring its suite of clearing and risk management services to MIAX Futures market participants." The introduction of this agreement coincides with MIAX's launch of new financial futures, including the Bloomberg equity index futures, which started trading on May 17, 2026.
The OCC's Role
Andrej Bolkovic, CEO of OCC, welcomed MIAX Futures as the fifth participant exchange under the MIAX name. He remarked, "MIAX Futures will benefit from our full range of clearing and risk management capabilities, and provide our clearing members with potential capital efficiencies through our internal cross-margining program." This collaboration not only enhances operational excellence but is also positioned to stimulate growth within the exchange-traded options and futures market.
Upcoming Launches
As MIAX Futures continues to list products on a phased launch schedule, the next offerings include the Tini Bloomberg 500 Index Futures, slated for May 31, 2026. Following that, the Bloomberg 500 Index Futures will be introduced on June 7, 2026. MIAX Futures is noted for its flagship product, Minneapolis Hard Red Spring Wheat, and will continue to clear all other agricultural products listed on its exchange.
