Arturo Planell Takes the Helm of Visa Japan

Visa Worldwide Japan has made a significant announcement with the appointment of Arturo Planell as the new President, effective July 1, 2026. In this pivotal role, Planell will oversee all operations of Visa in Japan, Korea, and Mongolia. His vast experience in financial services, coupled with nearly two decades at Visa, positions him well to lead the company into its next chapter, especially in these dynamic markets.

Planell is set to base his operations in Tokyo, where he aims to strengthen collaborations with local clients and partners. His focus will be on implementing strategies that support the ongoing growth of digital payments in the region. With over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, Planell brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position. Prior to this role, he served as the Southeast Asia Group Country Manager, overseeing operations in countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia. His diverse background includes stints as the Group Country Manager in the Andean region and holding key positions in risk management, global solutions & products, corporate strategy, and M&A, showcasing his versatility and expertise.

Planell holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Psychology from St. Mary's College of California, along with postgraduate studies at the University of San Francisco and Stanford University. His robust educational background complements his extensive managerial experience, making him adept at navigating the complexities of the financial landscape.
