Clarios Honored for Exceptional Commitment to Sustainability in Battery Manufacturing

Clarios Wins Prestigious Award for Sustainability

Clarios, recognized globally as the leading manufacturer of low-voltage batteries, has recently been honored with the inaugural "Excellence in Sustainability" award by ATR International. This award marks a significant milestone not just for Clarios, but also for the industry, highlighting their commitment to sustainable practices and innovations.

Highlights of the Achievement

The award ceremony took place in December 2024 during the ATR International Preferred ATR Suppliers (IPAS) Forum held in Stuttgart, Germany. Notably, it was Clarios that stood out among numerous manufacturers for establishing a best-in-class circular economy model. This model emphasizes the importance of resource recycling and sustainable production methods in the automotive industry.

Representatives from Clarios, including Bernd Evers, Sales Director EMEA, and Lisa Klein, Director Brand Marketing EMEA, were present to accept the award. According to Theres Gosztonyi, Vice President Aftermarket EMEA at Clarios, this accolade acknowledges the company's relentless efforts towards sustainability, stating that it signifies widespread recognition both within the sector and from customers.

The Circular Economy Model

Clarios has set the standard for the automotive battery industry with its advanced closed-loop lead recycling process. In an age where environmental concerns are paramount, the company has proven its capability to recycle a whopping 8,000 used batteries per hour throughout its network. This effort aligns perfectly with their mission to have all their battery materials responsibly sourced, recycled, and reused in the creation of new products.

Christian Rosenkranz, Vice President of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs EMEA, emphasized that sustainability is central to their business operations and product offerings. With increasing governmental pressures to lower emissions and the surge in demand for electric vehicles, the need for advanced battery technologies becomes even more critical. As he noted, 76% of the lead and 54% of the plastic used in Clarios batteries originate from recycled or repurposed materials.

Clarios' Global Impact

As a premier provider of low-voltage battery technologies for mobility, Clarios’ products are currently found in one out of every three vehicles on the road. With a dedicated workforce of approximately 18,000 employees operating in over 100 countries, Clarios combines deep industry knowledge with reliability and safety to enhance daily automotive experiences. Their diligent efforts ensure that 100% of their sold products are recyclable, showcasing their commitment to a sustainable future for the transport sector.

Clarios’ proactive stance on corporate social responsibility and innovative sustainability practices has positioned them as leaders in the global market. As the world transitions towards electric mobility, Clarios continues to drive forward, not only meeting the emerging demands of the vehicle landscape but also protecting the planet for future generations.

Conclusion

In summary, the recognition by ATR International is a testament to Clarios’ dedication to sustainability and circular economy principles. As they further their commitment to recycling and responsible sourcing, Clarios is paving the way for a greener future in the battery manufacturing industry, ensuring that they not only meet customer needs but also contribute positively to the environment.
