Exploring Disaster Preparedness: Nitto Towel's Event on April 29th, 2025

Nitto Towel's Spring Festival 2025: A Focus on Disaster Preparedness

On April 29, 2025, Nitto Towel Co., Ltd. will host the "Nitto Towel Spring Festival 2025 - Disaster Preparedness x Towel Day" at their main store located in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. This event is particularly significant as it marks the 80th anniversary of the Tokyo air raid on March 9, 1945. The event serves as a platform to reflect on disaster preparedness, emphasizing the importance of towels in emergency situations.

Founded in 1947, Nitto Towel has grown into a comprehensive towel company, actively engaging in towel production and planning. Recently, the company has shown a commitment to revitalizing the Nihonbashi area, contributing to community initiatives.

In light of recent global instability and a series of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and fires, it’s vital to reconsider our approaches to disaster preparedness. April 29 is also recognized as “Towel Day” in Japan, a day dedicated to celebrating the utility of towels, making this event even more relevant for the community.

Special Talks

The highlight of the day will be a series of special talks focusing on the theme "Disaster Preparedness x Towel Day." The first talk will feature Takahiro Nukatani, Executive Director of Gehryn Inc., who will discuss the NERV Disaster Preparedness app that delivers timely information to users. Another speaker will be Masayuki Sakamoto, the CEO of Hotman Co., which produces the renowned Tokyo towels, and is famous for overseeing every step of the towel production process in Japan. Additionally, Hiroyuki Igarashi, an executive from Igarashi Seihako Co. in Sumida, well-known for their memorial hall honoring victims of past disasters, will also share insights on the significance of disaster preparedness. The event will be hosted by Maho Ishigaki, a former NHK anchor turned meteorologist and disaster preparedness specialist.

Event Schedule

The festivities kick off at 10 AM, featuring product showcases related to disaster preparedness as well as a towel sale. Highlights include a unique towel titled "Bujidesu Towel" designed specifically for emergencies. Attendees will have the chance to purchase premium towels handpicked by certified towel sommeliers, available for sale from just one piece.
