Tsukiji Unagi Dining Launches Delivery Service for Elderly

Tsukiji Unagi Dining Launches New Delivery Service

In a heartfelt initiative, Tsukiji Unagi Dining announced the launch of its "Warm Meal Delivery Service" on August 18th, targeting the elderly and their families, particularly for the upcoming Respect for the Aged Day in 2026. This new service not only brings delicious unagi dishes to senior citizens living alone or in care facilities but also includes a special card from family members, delivering warmth and appreciation despite physical distances.

The first product of this campaign is the JET CHEF compatible “Hot Chilled Unagi Rice Box” that is set to be made available. Each box is prepared fresh at the Tsukiji store with unagi, rice, and sauce. Customers across Japan will receive their orders via refrigerated delivery, ensuring that by pulling a string attached to the JET CHEF at the time of consumption, they can enjoy a perfectly warmed meal within 10 to 12 minutes without the need for cooking or electronic devices.

Bridging Distances with Warmth

Recognizing that many individuals may find it difficult to visit their grandparents or parents on Respect for the Aged Day due to work or geographical constraints, this innovative service aims to create a new way of gifting. As outings become rare for the elderly, enjoying a sumptuous meal at home can truly enhance their special occasions. Each unagi rice box comes with a card that can bear a personalized message from the sender, further enhancing the experience. The recipient, during mealtime, is greeted with the enticing aroma of unagi—bringing families closer, even when physically apart.

The product is designed to be simplistic in its enjoyment; there’s no need for preparation or reheating in a microwave. Just a pull of the string is enough.

Targeting Diverse Recipients

The Warm Meal Delivery Service is envisioned for three primary scenarios:

1. Gifts from family members to their parents or grandparents living separately.
2. Special meals that elderly individuals can relish in the comfort of their homes.
3. Meals for special occasions at senior care facilities.

Earlier this June, Tsukiji Unagi Dining introduced the use of JET CHEF for catering services targeted at corporations, further enhancing its offerings with the hot chilled unagi rice box this July for nationwide orders. Expanding on prior successes, this new service offers a strategic blending of products, manufacturing, and delivery systems that effectively connects families, senior citizens, and care facilities. The unagi dish serves as the primary product to launch this initiative, with plans to diversify into other cuisines like grilled meats and seafood in the future, ensuring special meals are accessible to those facing mobility challenges.

Partnering for National Expansion

Beyond simply selling their products nationwide, Tsukiji Unagi Dining seeks to partner with local food businesses and restaurants to develop regionally cherished dishes that can complement the JET CHEF system. This collaborative approach aims to broaden the scope of the Warm Meal Delivery Service, welcoming inquiries from:

  • - Restaurants or food businesses interested in creating products that pair local dishes with JET CHEF.
  • - Senior care facilities looking to introduce festive meals or gifts for the elderly.
  • - Local governments and businesses that aspire to deliver warm meals to senior citizens.

By fostering collaborations around product development, sales, and distribution, Tsukiji Unagi Dining encourages partnerships that align with the ethos of their service.

Commitment to Quality and Connection

In the words of Tadashi Taniguchi, the company’s representative, “We define ourselves not just as a company selling unagi via e-commerce but as one dedicated to delivering warm meals to family tables across the nation. We believe that it’s possible to send warm meals alongside heartfelt messages, making family connections stronger, regardless of distance. Pulling the string just before eating allows families to feel the love and warmth conveyed through the meal.”

This initiative, stemming from respect and love for connection, seeks to uniquely redefine the gift of food, especially on special occasions like Respect for the Aged Day.
