A Successful Conclusion to the Second International Symposium on Yeast Protein Science and Technology
On April 11, 2026, the Second International Symposium on Yeast Protein Science and Technology took place in Yichang, demonstrating a significant milestone in the field of alternative proteins. Organized in collaboration with Angel Yeast (SH600298), the event attracted more than 350 researchers and industry leaders from around the world, establishing itself as a leading platform for innovation and collaboration.
Insights from Industry Leaders
Keynote speeches by Sun Baoguo and Chen Jian, both members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with Zhou Weibiao, a member of the National Academy of Sciences in Singapore, highlighted the transformative changes in the global food technology landscape. Sun pointed out the increasing competitiveness of research in Asia on the international stage. Chen emphasized the potential for biotechnological manufacturing to account for a third of global production, linking the industry's success to sustainable breeding and optimized production methods.
Zhou focused on the need for food self-sufficiency in light of geopolitical instability and addressed consumer acceptance as a barrier to commercialization. The professors collectively praised the recent breakthroughs in yeast protein research as a robust solution to global challenges, aligning with the vision of creating effective food systems of the future.
Publication of the Yeast Protein White Paper
A significant highlight of the symposium was the global launch of the White Paper on Yeast Protein (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). This publication offers a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in nutritional science, clinical health outcomes, regulatory progress, and scalable production methods. It positions microbial fermentation as a sustainable long-term solution for global protein supply challenges.
Angel Yeast also introduced two new yeast protein products during the event: AngeoPro™ Yeast Protein Hi90-A, featuring an impressive 88% protein content and a smooth mouthfeel, suitable for premium sports nutrition and special dietary needs, and S80-A, a fully water-soluble product targeting the growing ready-to-drink and protein-enriched beverage segments.
Broadening Application Areas
A series of expert sessions provided insights into yeast protein research and its expanding applications. Speakers detailed the effectiveness of yeast protein in sport recovery, sarcopenia containment, gastric mucosal protection, and modulation of gut barriers. International speakers from the USA, the Netherlands, Belgium, India, and Israel shared cutting-edge developments and cross-industry applications of yeast protein.
Manish Chauhan, co-founder of Arboreal—a key player in the promotion of yeast protein in India—identified a growing consensus that yeast protein is evolving from an “alternative protein” to a “third protein” and is approaching mainstream status.
Business Collaborations and Future Directions
The symposium facilitated significant business collaborations, including a joint research initiative between Beijing Technology and Business University and the Angel Group. Five major food brands signed strategic partnership agreements during the event. An onsite exhibition showcased applications of the Angeopro yeast protein portfolio, covering performance nutrition, healthy aging, functional foods, and staple ingredients.
Participants also toured Angel Yeast's state-of-the-art production facility to gain firsthand insight into industrial-scale production capabilities.
Xiong Tao, Chairman of Angel Yeast, emphasized the symposium as a crucial platform for knowledge exchange, prioritization alignment, and collaborative momentum. He expressed a commitment to strengthening ties with experts, scientists, and industry partners to drive technological advancements, share best practices, and fast-track the transition from research to market. Angel Yeast continues to strive for global food security and affordable access to high-quality nutrition.
