Bybit Achieves First Virtual Asset License in the UAE
On October 9, 2025, Bybit, regarded as the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, proudly announced that it has attained the esteemed Virtual Asset Platform Operator License from the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) of the UAE. This significant achievement makes Bybit the first cryptocurrency exchange to receive a full operational license from the SCA, creating a new benchmark in the UAE’s pursuit of becoming a global hub for digital assets.
The licensing signifies Bybit's commitment to adhering to high industry standards reflecting a rigorous compliance framework existing both locally and internationally. This step not only legitimizes Bybit’s operations within the UAE but also reinforces the exchange's global strategy to integrate and promote cryptocurrency adoption in various local markets.
Having gained In-Principle Approval (IPA) from the SCA earlier in February 2025, Bybit utilized support from the Blockchain Centre in Abu Dhabi to navigate the stringent compliance requirements. The full license reflects the SCA's trust in Bybit’s security protocols, transparency practices, and adherence to regulatory standards.
This milestone comes amid several other regulatory triumphs for Bybit throughout 2025, which includes acquiring its MiCAR license in Europe and resuming full trading operations in India. These achievements underscore Bybit’s roadmap focused on compliance as it establishes a robust presence across significant jurisdictions.
Ben Zhou, Co-founder and CEO of Bybit, stated, 'Securing the full Virtual Asset Platform Operator License from the SCA signifies our unwavering dedication to establishing trust through compliance. The UAE is leading the charge in digital asset regulations, and this acknowledgment emphasizes our superior governance and security standards.' He further noted that regulation serves as the bedrock for sustainable growth, and this milestone is pivotal in the exchange’s global regulatory journey.
Helen Liu, Co-CEO of Bybit, expressed gratitude towards the SCA for their support during the licensing process. She acknowledged the transparency and thoroughness of the SCA's regulatory framework, which empowers exchanges like Bybit to operate with clarity and confidence.
With the SCA's license, Bybit plans to offer a suite of regulated services that include trading, brokerage, custody, and fiat conversion to both retail and institutional clients across the UAE. The exchange aims to expand its local operations by establishing a substantial regional center in Abu Dhabi, seeking to hire over 500 employees across the cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This expansion will not only enhance compliance and customer service but also introduce innovative education and Web3 initiatives in partnership with local stakeholders.
Bybit's commitment to investing in talent, technology, and infrastructure strengthens its aspiration to support the UAE’s ambition to emerge as a leading digital asset and financial innovation center. Through this regulatory construct, Bybit is set to bridge the gap between traditional finance and decentralized finance, empowering users to unlock the full potential of the digital economy.
As Bybit moves forward, it continues to strive for excellence in creating a more equitable and accessible digital ecosystem aimed at serving millions globally. With innovation at its core, Bybit is well-positioned to define the future landscape of cryptocurrency trading.
