Join the Movement for Hearing Health at Walk4Hearing Events Across the Nation
On May 16, 2026, the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) will officially launch its annual Walk4Hearing series, an event dedicated to raising awareness about hearing health across the country. This year’s series is especially significant, as it marks over two decades of helping millions of people who are affected by hearing loss. The Walk4Hearing initiative was first introduced in 2001 and has since evolved into a major platform for celebrating life with hearing loss while also educating the public on hearing health issues.
This year, 18 cities will host Walk4Hearing events, beginning with the Twin Cities Walk4Hearing in St. Paul, Minnesota. Participants are encouraged not only to join but also to volunteer and contribute through donations. More information on the full schedule of Walks can be found at the official website, www.walk4hearing.org.
One of the key features of the Walk4Hearing is the provision of free hearing screenings and access to hearing care professionals. Many local businesses and HLAA chapters participate to provide support for participants during these events. HLAA’s Executive Director, Barbara Kelley, emphasizes the importance of these walks, noting that they provide crucial educational resources and a sense of solidarity for those impacted by hearing loss, which can affect various aspects of life including relationships, education, and mental health.
"Walk4Hearing is HLAA's nationwide network of support in action," Kelley stated. This sentiment resonates throughout the community, where people from diverse backgrounds and ages come together for a common purpose.
Highlighting the fun aspect, many Walks this year will feature giveaways related to popular children's character Peppa Pig. The character's younger brother, George, who wears a hearing aid, will be showcased in these events, and walkers are eligible to receive a figurine as part of the merchandise while supplies last. Additionally, the top fundraisers who are 10 years old or younger will have the chance to win a special 'Joke and Sing George' figure, making the event engaging for families.
The generosity of sponsors is vital to the success of the Walk4Hearing events. Companies such as CapTel, which specializes in captioned telephones for those with hearing loss, are proud partners providing support through various initiatives. The top fundraiser from each Walk will also receive a pair of captioning glasses, thanks to the sponsorship from Captify, another HLAA Hear for Life partner.
Over the years, Walk4Hearing has successfully raised more than $20 million, directly supporting vital programs and services for those dealing with hearing loss. This initiative not only educates but also connects individuals with local resources, fostering a sense of community and hope.
The HLAA extends its reach beyond the walks themselves, advocating for communication access and health care treatment for all those affected by hearing issues. Established in 1979, they remain committed to ensuring that no one faces hearing loss alone, reinforcing the belief that education and advocacy are paramount for creating an inclusive environment in society.
